Cyprus New Years Eve,

Want to know where to go for New Years Eve. Been to Cyprus many times but never in the Winter. We love the whole island so not bothered by place but maybe looking for somewhere close to a decent Taverna or 2 so that we can sit and have a good long relaxing Cypriot meal. Our friends are not into night life who we are travelling with so looking for some ideas on Hotels, B%26amp;B or Apartments open at that end of the year.

Limassol is the place for New Year as Protaras is closed. Nearly all the hotels have festivities for the New Years evening. I have been in Elias Beach and Ajax Hotels for New Years Eve and both were very good parties.

If your friends prefer to stay in and be quieter then why don%26#39;t you book into a taverna for the evening where you could have a really brilliant meal of meze, and listen to the best of bouzouki music.

I would head to 80 Irini Street to To Konatzi (English version of spelling as I don%26#39;t have greek keyboard). If you enjoy Cypriot music and food you won%26#39;t go wrong there.

For a complete contrast you could book a short stay at Lofou village and spend the evening at Lofou Taverna with only a two minutes roll back to bed. The Taverna own the Agrovino Lofou Studios you would also get the real Cypriot New Year.

Hope these ideas will set you thinking.

Th Ajax in Limassol is nice, now it has had a facelift and so is the Curium Palace. Be aware there is a premuim to be paid for eating and joining in the festivities.

Lofou, is pleasant and rural if you want to get away from it all but very quiet and can be cold and damp at New Year.

as you indicate wanting a quieter night then I would recommend spending the evening in Ayia Napa they usually do a concert in the evening with nice music from a local group, very Cypriot and some of the hotels do an evening meal for non residents also worth going to is Paralimni for the Carol service at the Municipality (town hall)usually a few days before Christmas.

Oh dear what a decision! Lofou Village does sound like the sort of place my friends are looking for but I dont really like the sound of cold and damp I could stay at home and be cold and damp on New Years Eve. Can anyone sell it to me!! To make me want to give up the fraction of a chance we may get a little warmth for the only 3 days we will be in Cyprus. I have priced up a pretty good deal in Protaras 5* for a little over £500 AI and Flights. But No it wont have the charm.

I will sell Lofou to you even if it is cool and a little damp.

Traditional large Cypriot village all built in local stone. Hidden walkways, tiny alleys and all set in unspoilt Cypriot countryside. Lofou Tavern, very old world stone and wooden built. Food is fresh and traditional, wood fires and hot mulled wine.

To be fair in winter it is very quiet mostly frequented by some locals and the young wealthy from Nicosia. Just up the road is Lania, Doros,Trimaklini, Platres all worth a trip but again watch the weather.
