bus from larnaca airport to near paphos (chlorakas), cyprus

We arrive at Larnaca airport (11:15am Wednesday) and want to get to Chlorakas, near Paphos. We are not staying at a hotel/resort, so no transfers included. I read there is a bus via Lemosos and have printed out the timetable from the tourist info site. Is this bus reliable/ it turns up/ runs to time/ not packed to the door/ bun fight? Any other suggestions, as a taxi has quoted us 100 euros one way (bit much for two Aussies!)

The airport bus has so far proved reliable, comfortable and quick but you need to be sure of the current timetable - ring them up on the number on the timetable to check you%26#39;ve got the right one.

I don%26#39;t know about the %26#39;bun fight%26#39; angle. There%26#39;s certainly no problem out of main season.

However, it only goes to the main bus station in Paphos so you%26#39;d still need to get transport from there, (more like 8 Km than 145 - so a taxi should be a little cheaper but still feel expensive!) If you%26#39;re on the sea front there is a bus which runs there from the bus station.

Is it not possible for you to hire a small car? Driving is very very easy in Cyprus and the route from Larnaca to Paphos is very straightforward. Certainly taxis are expensive but given the choice I would much prefer to pay a fixed taxi rate of 100 euros (that doesn%26#39;t seem too unreasonable bearing in mind I have to pay 60 euros for a 40 minute journey from Larnaca to my destination) than to sit on a bus from Larnaca to Paphos - you will be shattered by the time you reach Chlorakas!

I%26#39;ve no idea why Kath suggests you would be shattered from taking the bus. It%26#39;s always easier to sit on a bus than to drive - even though the driving is easy.

The bus is good and comfortable, will cost 28 Euros for 2 of you.

Sit back, watch the countryside or snooze!

Only because I%26#39;ve had experience of sitting on buses in Cyprus and I don%26#39;t find them very comfortable at all. If its a luxury coach with air conditioning then fine but my only experience has been on fairly basic transport. I haven%26#39;t used the bus service from Larnaca to Paphos so apologies if speaking out of turn.

Sorry for the delay; just back from ski-ing in Norway. A bit of a change from Cyprus!

I don%26#39;t think there is a shuttlebus to Protaras/Pernera. The ones started up last year were to Nicosia and Limassol/Paphos. There are local buses into Larnaca.

Does money really matter???

We are due out to coral bay in the middle of may and money was not really an issue untill our parents decided they would like to come,BUT with the use of the internet we managed to find very resonable flights,a good deal on a villa and car.

So the savings that we have made will effectively pay for the first week and that includes playing golf,

You cannot put a price on food and drink whilst on holiday otherwise its not a holiday you also cannot put a price on feeling warm in the sunshine this is always good for your health.

Just try and use the internet to its full potential and this will hopefully pay for a good portion of your finances on holiday,Times are hard but try to enjoy life, you never know whats round the corner.

What a nice positive attitude - are you as sweet and cuddly as your namesake ?!! We were nearly put off visiting Cyprus last year, but managed to get a deal only slightly dearer than the year before. The prices, with the introduction of the Euro, were a bit higher but then again they were at home too.

We had a lovely time- we will probably have second thought again this year but we always feel so much better after some autumn sun.....and, as you say, you never know.

I know the cost of holidaying has gone up for us Brits in the Eurozone but, if you are resourceful and don%26#39;t mind doing a bit of legwork it can still be done.

I know one member who is going to Cyprus this year on a limited budget and intends on making the most of the self catering facilities at the accommodation. Is there anything nicer than sitting under the shade out of the afternoon sun, drinking wine and enjoying a barbecue lunch with family?

I don%26#39;t go on holiday to save up (I do that for the remaining 50 weeks of the year) but if I had to I would forfeit eating out in restaurants and drinking in bars just to be in the sun with my lovely family.

Couldn%26#39;t have put it better folks! A holiday is what you make it with the resources you have. The absolute joy of lying under a blue Cypriot sky with the warmth of the sun on your face, carton of wine by your side, fetta, tomatoes, bread and olives - bliss!

Totally agree with all the postings here. Yes, it%26#39;s been nice over the years to go on holiday and find prices for food and drink at half those of the UK but is this why we really go away?

For me no, it%26#39;s about relaxing with the family in the sunshine forgetting about all the normal stress of life in the UK.

If you need to keep costs down then self catering seems a good idea and eat the odd meal at your villa/apartment.

We arrive in Paphos for our first visit now in just under 5 weeks and can%26#39;t wait.

You got married in Cyprus? Recommendations Please

Hi, I%26#39;m looking for a good recommendation in Cyprus. Me %26amp; my partner are looking to get married there. We%26#39;ve looked at a few only but still not 100% sure,

Have anyone got married in Cyprus %26amp; can recommened a great hotel that you can also have the cermony on the hotel site.

I think you need to decide which side of the Island you want the ceremony, also would you like to explore while your here as well. Most Wedding couples want a nice hotel, nice beaches to relax and chill out after the wedding others like to explore or go on a trip to Egypt.

All Hotels on the Island are superb, refurbished every year, a good percentage you can get good deals on the Internet or Tour Brochures but others like the 5* will still retain their high price. Limassoll area are slightly cheaper in comparsion with Paphos, the beaches are hotel owned, I think I am safe in saying that nit sure if there are any others but Leica will probably assist. Ayia Napa and Protaras have fantastic beaches and are the best on the Island. Paphos has 2 good beach area%26#39;s but has an abundance of history within the area and it is in easy access to other area%26#39;s as well.

Choice is yours, as they say

I have never been married myself but I know quite a few things but only in Paphos...

There are many hotels that allow people to marry onsite and they are:

(In my opinion, the most beautiful hotels)

6) Azia Resort and Spa hotel

7) Royal Athena hotel and Athena Beach hotel (same brand)

You do not necessarily have to marry in hotels. There are town halls which are beautiful because of the traditional Cypriot interior design inside them and the Cypriot exterior architectural design outside so the buildings stand out. There are areas outside the Yeroskipou town hall where you can arrive, do the ceremoney, sign the registry and then do your after wedding photographs.

At the Paphos Town Hall, you can do the same as above. There is a park next to the hall so the whole place is really nice.

There is also the Peyia Town Hall/Parish. The Parish is lovely with gardens all around. Really pretty.

You will find that you don%26#39;t have to fork out for a reception at a hotel unless you really want to. There are lovely restaurants and tavernas in the town and in the countryside in villages where you can hold your reception. They should be happy to allow the restaurants to be decked out in balloons, decorations, ribbons, confetti and flowers etc etc.

You can also marry on yachts at the harbour. You need to get a marriage licence and pay for an officer to marry you and your fiance on the boat. You can also hold the reception on the boat afterwards while it cruises along the seaside.

I have a bride. She is getting married at the ampitheatre in Paphos. That%26#39;s another option!

I am sure that someone else will come forth with marriages in other towns!

Thanks for your quick replys. I notice alot of people on here want to get married in Cyprus.

We are going to book with a travel agency, Thomson etc. So we get the full package. Not that i%26#39;m lazy to do it myself, is that i%26#39;m not confident in myself to get it right if i went out %26amp; about and did it all independently.

What we%26#39;re looking for:

A very cozy quiet hotel, with private beach if possiable. We%26#39;re not really into exporeling rather relax %26amp; soak up the sun., so not sure which part of the island is best.

Want somewhere of which we could have the cermony on site, Not sure of reception just yet has there are not really many of us going, maybe a meal somewhere?

has we%26#39;re having a private party went we get back, for everyone to be there.

Any recommendation which can relate to the above?

I am probably speaking for many people here... I urge you to re-consider booking a Thomas Cook wedding co-ordinator. If you read/scroll through previous forums about them, you will see that many brides have complained about their lack of communication, taking weeks to reply back to a single email and lastly, the brides/grooms find out where they are getting married, the time they%26#39;re getting married and where the reception is!!

I highly recommend that you book a private wedding planner. Yes, they cost more but this reflects their level of service and I emphasise this point; they are excellent at communicating via emails/phone calls and organising wedding the way you want it to be. No doubt about that.

I cannot say which place is the best in Cyprus to hold a wedding. Paphos is the best for Sunset photography because evidently that is where the sun set!!!! (pardon the pun.) Both Ayia Napa and Paphos are very popular wedding places definitely. Nicosia and Larnaca the least. A.N and Paphos are lovely beach towns and there are plenty of seaside restaurnants/taverns for you to choose from.

If you are in Cyprus, you may would like to consider having your reception at a taverna for that %26#39;authentic%26#39; feel.

For any ideas or information, there is no harm in contacting a private wedding planner. He/she should be able to help you or advise you.

weddings at paphos town hall?

Hi every1,

hope someone can help, myself and my fiance have booked to get married in paphos, on the 1st august 2007, at the the town hall. We cant wait as neither of us have ever been to cyprus...

Can anyone tell me if the ceremony has traditional vows? and how many witneses do we need? how lond does the ceremony last for?

i would love to hear any info.

We will be staying at the Atlantica golden beach hotel, in paphos!

We got married at Paphos Town Hall 9 years ago. I don%26#39;t know whether things have changed, but the vows were not as at home. As far as I remember, the lady conducting the ceremony just read out a shortish legal type statement (very nicely read!) I think we said a few words for the %26#39;exchanging of the rings%26#39; bit, more or less as you do at home. We had two witnesses, as well as our guests, and the whole ceremony was no more than about 15 minutes. It was a brilliant day, and although the ceremony bit is short and sweet, unlike a big do at home, it was a lovely day, and I would do it all over again (if I wasn%26#39;t already married!!). The hotel and local people will make it a day to remember, and Cyprus is a beautiful place to get married. You won%26#39;t be disappointed.

Yes, I would second what Hornplayer has said. paphos is an absolutely wonderful place. We got married there in June of this year. The vows were slightly different to back home. You need 2 witnesses and it was over and done with in about 15 minutes. Simply the best day of my life !

We booked our wedding with Di at Paphosfinder weddings, once we told her what date we wanted, she came back to us the next day with confirmation. Can%26#39;t fault her, she kept us up todate with everything that was gonig on, and when we arrived she took us to the town hall for the paper work, (which was nerve racking, lol) but she was great, even tho we know paphos and was thinknig about doing it our selves we were glad we didn%26#39;t, it was stressfull enough before we left london just by choosing the invites and bridesmaid dresses etc, goodness knows what it would have been like if we had do do all the finer details!!

The best day of my life.

The vows are not like englands but they are not that hard to remember - even tho i forgot what i had to say half way into saying my vows, haha plus it only lasts 15 mins.

You need 2 witnesses - we didnt invite anyone out with us so we asked our wedding co-ordinator and holiday rep to be our witnesses.

We stayed at the Athena Royal Beach Hotel and it was fab - couldnt of asked for anything better as all the staff made our wedding day so lovely.

As for your wedding photo%26#39;s - go for a company called %26quot;papos and son%26quot; they did our wedding photo%26#39;s and they turned out sooooo perfect and we had the wedding recorded and the dvd is great.

Protaras is a purpose built resort and although they have kiosk supermarkets I would advise going to Paralimini as they have a hyper market within the town, you will get just about everything you need there, it is about 10 mins away from Protaras

car hire now or wait til you get to the airport

Hi

We are coming to Larnaca on 2nd August and have been looking to hire a car. Some of the quotes are huge though as we need a car for 6 people.

Cheapest we have been quoted so far is $940 with advantage.

Would it be better to wait until we get to the airport or would I run the risk of not getting a suitable car?

Make sure you will get all your luggage in as well as the people if you get a 7 seater. With this in mind we booked 2 smallish cars last time we went with 6 of us ( 4 adults 2 children). We put 2 adults, 1 child, and 3 cases in each. It worked out about the same price.

protaras easter

I am a single dad traveling to protaras from the midlands at easter with a teenage daughter on a self catering holiday, can anyone advise me on exchange rates, is it best to take euros, or pounds and change it there, also is anyone else going with teenagers around the same time that would like to meet for a drink and a chat

Protarus is a nice place with a shopping street, some good eating places on the strip and up on the main road and a good beach. Take your driving licence. Busy Aiya Napa is about 4 miles away.

Probably the best place to change money unless you can get euros commission free back home. The rate is lousy (94p per euro) and changes often. It has a tendency to get better but then a newspaper or politician talks gloom and doom and down it goes again.

I would recommend that you take Euro%26#39;s if you have been quoted a good rate in the UK, the only trouble with Protaras is that it is a purpose built resort %26amp; you will get stung over the exchange rate. I am not saying there are not places that you will get a good rate but they are few %26amp; far between esp in Protaras as it is on it%26#39;s own ( 4 miles a way from Ayia Napa %26amp; also it is just a long strip)

i have a fair fx card. It%26#39;s like a top up debit card that you can use in any euro country best rates I could find and much safer than carrying cash. you can pay direct with card for no charge or withdraw from any machine and only 1 euro per withdrawal. address is fairfx.com i think

Well, our %26#39;local%26#39; in Paphos is a great little bar up a side street......go to the Aloe Hotel on Poseidonos Ave. The little road running up the side of it is Thalias Street (The Romantica Restaurant is on the corner). Just up on the left, is the Friendship Bar - great bar, great bar owner who has about 3 telly screens with sport and football on all the time.

Well, I ended up in The Friendship Bar and the recommendation was good - very friendly bar owner, nice man --- he even offered to put on the tennis on another TV so my wife didn%26#39;t have to watch the football! Only strange thing was, my wife and I ended up being on the only people there after the England game finished. The owner deserves more custom on a Saturday night. Good recommendation, Hornplayer. ps the owner doesn%26#39;t know you by that moniker.

Andreotis - safety deposit box?

Hi,

i am staying at the Andreotis in June, it does not say in the brochure if they have saftey deposit boxes. Does anyone know if they do?

Haven%26#39;t stayed there for a few years but think the safety deposit boxes were behind reception rather than in room.

We are staying at the Andreotis in May as we are over for my son wedding.We visited Cyprus for the first time last year we stayed in the Pernera district that time and we went to have a look at the Andreotis as we had already booked for that hol it looks a nice complex does not look to flashy from the front but you will be surprised when you go through the back i noticed the safety deposit boxes are beside the desk in the reception area not in the rooms it is only a month till we go will let you know more about the Andreotis.

I am going to pafian sun holiday village, cyprus in 3 days!

It%26#39;s a great place, If a bit out of Paphos, bus stop opposite so will save you on taxi fares.

try walking over to the queens hotel, fantatsic natural cove, excellent for swimming.

Your closer to Coral Bay than main Paphos, try this out too, some top restaurants and bars.

First visit to cyprus

Hi, can anyone advise if its a local custom in hotels for weekend deals where 700/900 people decend on a paphos hotel for a 24 hour live in, while the holiday guests take a back seat?

Now where did you hear that one from lol, Only happens if it%26#39;s a bank Holiday or Saints day, mainly during Easter and sometime during the Aug / Sept period

Lol, I have never heard of this one. Easter, mainly back to villages. July-August, Cypriot summer holidays, most of us tend to keep away from resorts. Greece is popular, villages, England for some.

You will see an increase in Cypriots visiting Cypriot resorts but to be honest we genrally find it very overpriced.

if you go to a hotel and announce that you are a cypriot (speak greek though!) and ask if you can get a discount. you shouuld be able to. I once stayed at the Azia hotel for 70 euros for one night only!!

I know only too well. I did not want to announce to all on forum we get better deals than the tourists. But since you have started the ball rolling, it happens in tavernas and restaurants as well.

Leica, I don%26#39;t think they give us better rates any more. Especially taverns and restaurants.

Occasionally there might be a drop in price for New Years eve, etc. but a 250 euros for 2 nights b%26amp;b and a dinner/lunch compared to a 60 euros per night all inclusive with drinks and all, I think foreigners get better prices than us.

I always shop around for the best deals. I look on the websites and then I ring up asking what deals they have and then I ask if they have any offers for any locals. If they charge more expensively over the phone than they do online, I book online instead.

Best company for car hire

Hi All.

After all the advice received I have decided to taxi transfer from the airport to Polis. Many thanks for all the valuable posts.

Who would you recommend for car hire in Polis or the surrounding area.

I%26#39;m not bothered about the style, the cheapest the better!!!!

I can remember a post from another forum where the person said they could not source a car during their stay.I%26#39;m presuming it was high season.

Do I need to pre book a car or will we be ok to hire when we arrive in July/August?

The wife and i go yearly and can highly recommend petridesrentals,we have never had a problem with them and they have always been keenly priced.They are located right next to Polis Square and Yiannis the owner is a really nice guy.

I should think you would be better booking early especially as you are going mid/summer.

Try www.pafoscarhire.com they have a Polis office-details on website. We e mailed the booking- always ask for a quote as it can be cheaper than website- but explained that we wanted the car for 3 days and we were only using the car locally so could we just pay for petrol used. We just filled it back to where it was on pick up and there was no problem. They also go under the name of fontana. WE booked a smallish car and were given a large automatic, not particularly new but as mentioned we only wanted for local travel.

You would be best to book - we once went in Sept and struggled !

The office is run by Stathis and Fiona. Good service - my Mum once backed a car into a post and they were there within 30 mins and changed car no problem!

Things to do and not do

Hi All

We travel out on Sunday to get married in paphos. Any1 got tips on what to do and not do while in Cyprus?

Troodos mountains and Kykko monastery.

Mosaics at Paphos

Aphrodites Rock

Curium Ampitheatre and Mosaics

Depends what you like as there are waterparks and go karts etc too. Most of all enjoy the sun and your wedding!!

We get married at the Royal Athena on the 14th. May set a rule that nobody can watch the liverpool V Chelsea match after the reception !!!!!

Don%26#39;t bother with the tomb of the kings - just a load of holes in the ground - Curium archealogical park is much better.

Go over to Polis and Latchi and go on a boat trip to the blue lagoon thats brill.

Places to visit

Paphos:

Aphrodite%26#39;s baths. It%26#39;s at Latsi, has a very nice beach but not sandy and the waters are deep. I think its the cleanest beach in Cyprus.

Rock of Romiou/Petra tou Romiou: Legend says that Digenis Akritas(protector of the borders) threw this huge rock to destroy a pillagers ship. Beach there is also very nice but deep.

Castle at the harbour: Old castle(not worth going if there is entrance fee) A lot of cafes on the way to the castle.

There is also an archaological area next to the harbour.

The mosaics.

There is also an anchient church of saint george. It%26#39;s on the way to peyia but when you reach the junction don%26#39;t get of the main road(don%26#39;t make a right to go to Peyia) and keep going straight.

Limassol:

The old city of Amathounta

Ancient theatre of Kourion and the mosaics there.

Medieval Castle which is also a museum(at the old harbour)

Platres village, Omodos village, Leukara village.

If you wish to get souvenirs prefer the Leukara knitting as most shops in Paphos, Limassol and Ayia Napa sell the same souvenirs you can find anywhere in Europe with the name of Cyprus/paphos/limassol imprinted on them.

Larnaca:

Kition

Nicosia/Lefkosia:

The old city within the walls is nice. Don%26#39;t expect anything anchient though.
