Hi,
We are looking at going to Protaras next May (2010) and would like to know if there are any good All inclusive hotels in the Protaras area? We would prefer a quieter area, not on the strip if possible. We haven%26#39;t been to Cyprus before and would like to see a bit of local life, is there much in Protaras or is it very British?
Thanks in advance.

Protaras is a purpose built holiday resort and does cater in the main for the British and everything the British have wanted on holiday (all day breakfasts, karaoke etc!) but it is a very nice clean pedestrianised resort with lovely beaches and lots of decent restaurants. A quieter area is Pernera which is a suburb of Protaras (only 10 minute walk away) More laid back but even this become more commercialised as the years pass by with a lot of local development. Its what tourists have demanded and so the Cypriots have provide it. More and more now though the British want peace and quiet and the %26quot;old Cyprus back%26quot;! The Kouzalis Beach hotel which is situated on the coastal road between Pernera and Paralimni is in an ideal situation although adult only.In a quiet spot although there are differing reviews on the food at the hotel. Depending on your budget the Grecian Park hotel is in a lovely area midway between Protaras %26amp; Ayia Napa. Most of the hotels in Protaras and surrounding area will cater A1 but be aware generally you will be at the mercy of the chef and in all honesty you may get repetative %26quot;holiday food%26quot; for 2 weeks. Your best bet would be to base yourself in say Pernera and hire a car so you can get out and about to the surrounding villages, tour the Troodos mountains and get a general feel of Cyprus and to sample the local out of the way tavernas. Have a look on TA at the hotel reviews, pick one out and put another posting on the forum for comments.

I personally wouldnt go all inclusive, i was talking to a some locals i have got to know over the years and they say know Toskkos Group is taking over most of the hotels they buy cheap food and it isnt very good

I couldn%26#39;t agree with you more Cherub. I heard the same story last year when in Cyprus. All inclusive isn%26#39;t a good move for Cyprus but the Tsokkos Group is a mighty force to reckon with. The sad thing is new travellers to Cyprus will not get to know and see the lovely island or sample the true Cypriot way of life - instead just confined to the hotel. You may as well stop at home and eat KFC for 2 weeks.

We have been to Protaras All inclusive and self catering and are due to go back All Inclusive in August, 2 years ago we stayed at the Tsokkos Sun Gardens and found it fab the food was gorgeous top quality, we started the holiday in the Artemis and this was diabolical food and everything else to do with the hotel. When we went self catering August last year we found it to be expensive with the Euro and all although had wonderful meals everyday not 1 to complain about, though we ended up spending more on the holiday and food than we would if we had payed for an All Inclusive holiday. (there%26#39;s 4 of us 2 adults and 2 kids)

We went to Cyprus for the first time last year and we loved it booked to go back Sept this year we stayed in the Pernera district it is great you just walk along to Protaras which is more commerlized. We stayed at the Domniki dont think they do AI there is enough resturants in fact the meals at the Domniki itself are great and there is take aways around to.I think we made a good choice staying in the Pernera area as it is more quieter saying that we booked to stay in Protaras for my son wedding which is in 6 weeeks times we had booked that one before we had visited Cyprus he is gettin married at the Grecian Sands in Ayia Napa.

We had never been AI before until we stayed at the Tsokkos Gardens Apps in Pernera. We found it to be just what we needed and couldnt complain, everything was perfect and the kids loved it. So much so, that we are going back again this August to Tsokkos Gardens and AI.

I suppose all inclusive makes sense with kids or ir your on a budget. I like just havin a mooch about at night and then decide where to eat. I dont like wearing trousers at night in hotels and drinking a non branded beer or spirit

Yes I agree with you Cherub77, its good to get out and explore where you are and this is what we normally do when we are away. But we found the heat too much in Cyprus, even at night, so we upgraded and didnt move much for the next week and a half. But we are so looking forward to doing it all over again! :-)

Cyprus is my favourite place ever, and ive been to many. I love Protaras and have been going for the last ten years. Saying that we are off to Santorini in June, the missus has twisted my arm. I dread the black sand and will be wishing i was on Fig Tree Bay, but what the hell we will try and sneak a week there in September funds permitting

Hi
Just thought i%26#39;d tag my opinion on here - i honestly don%26#39;t know why anyone would go to cyprus (protaras anyway, can%26#39;t really vouch for anywhere else) and go all inclusive. One of the main reasons we love cyprus is choice and quality of restaurants. I can totally understand how convinient AI would be with kiddies but the restaurants and bars I find do cater really well for them too!
Just my opinion, hope you find somewhere that suits you!
