Malpas or Merit Crystal Cove?

Hi,

My wife and I are visiting N Cyprus for the first time in June. We are looking for a hotel near or on a nice beach and these seem to fit the bill. Both appear to have a good choice of restaurants with Kyrenia close by for evening visits. Would be grateful for any views on the merits of these hotels, and whether there are others we should also consider. Very many thanks.

Depends on what you are looking for on your visit. The 2 hotels you mention are typical large examples of 5 star establishments in the Mediterranean region. For local character look elsewhere at smaller places. Pays you money...etc.

having stayed in both, I would personally recommend the Malpas. Service is great with very attentive staff. Excellent facilities. The Merit, although a good hotel, tends to cater more for visitors from Turkey and their casino tends to attract undesirables, made both my wife and I slightly uncomfortable.

However, the merit does have a nice beach. The malpas uses what I believe is a man made beach (not a sandy beach) and is a 10min shuttle ride away. If a beach is your priority go to the Merit, otherwise stay at the Malpas.

hope this helps...

What about the Acapulco? It has a great beach. I stayed there a couple of years ago and was a bit disappointed by the accommodation, but they have had a big new extension built since then and the general areas were very pleasant and the food fantastic. I hope its still as good! Again, it has a casino and I was woken late at night, so remember your ear plugs. They do also have bungalows, which may be a better option?

Hi Guys,

Many thanks for your comments and the other suggestions which I will also consider.

Just realised I have answered this one before, but the post was removed, possibly because I included some web site names. So here%26#39;s what I wrote second time, which if the links are OK with TA, will be above this one, and if not, here it is with the links removed!

As others have said, I think as a UK tourist you%26#39;d probably enjoy the Malpas more of the two, but it all depends if you want to take a shuttle bus to the beach (Malpas) or walk to it (Merit Cove).

The Acapulco has probably the best beach in TRNC, which is kept spotlessly clean, but it does get crowded at weekends since non-residents can come in. Which of course means you can stay elsewhere and use the beach if you want to, for a small entrance fee! (Escape Beach Club is another fee-paying beach area that is less crowded and more chilled in feel.)

I would also suggest a look at the Jasmine Court, a big hotel with nice grounds and a picturesque if somewhat small beach.

If you want good hotels at bargain prices, how about staying at the 3 star Denizkizi hotel and using the facilities of the 5 star Royal Hotel, including access to a lovely cove with sandy beach. Yes, it is sunlounger city, but the grounds are lovely and the beach front restaurant is very popular.

Frankly, Acapulco resort is our idea of hell. Huge and brash ( some might prefer this of course ) but the worst problem is the Gestapo like attitude of the place regarding taking in your own stuff, even water, for goodness sake! and of course they charge and arm and a leg for their stuff. Forewarned is forearmed.

Agree with Gibson on this one !
