First Time in Kyrenia

I would like to visit this area of Cyprus and I%26#39;m looking for a hotel on the seafront and within walking distance of resturants and bars. Any suggestions?

The Dome is probably the most obvious, although I personally have never stayed there. It is convenient for Niazis Restaurant and you can walk to the old harbour where there are many restaurants.

I have stayed at the Dome and enjoyed it although it tends to cater to the older age group. It is in a great location and very close to the old harbour. Alternatively, you could try the Manolya Hotel or the Celebrity Hotel in Lapta. Both are on the sea and very close to bars and restaurants. There is also the LA Hotel in Lapta but I think it is closed at the moment and not sure if it will be re-opening this season.

I would be aware of the Lapta area as the hotels such as LA and Celebrty are on a hideous stretch of commercialised road which is 10 miles from Kyrenia town. There used to be some great restaurants around there ( The Hut, Shirley Valentine`s, when both run by the lovely Jan ) but no longer. What standard of hotel are you after?

What constitutes %26quot;hideously commercial%26quot;? The road in question is less than a mile long with a couple of hotels, bars and restaurants along it. Not much neon, very little traffic and definitely no kiss me quick hats. It is far less commercial than the harbour area of Kyrenia.

The Hut is still lovely with great views and food. There is a nice Italian restaurant called Veni Vici, The Cabin has been refurbished and there are a number of other bars and restaurants catering to all tastes. There is also a nice open-air market on a Saturday at Chateau Lambousa.

I would still say it is worth consideration if you are looking for a beach holiday with watering holes in easy walking distance.

All sounds very Cypriot ? what is happening to Cyprus ?

Essentially, the harbour is a fabulous setting. We go there at about 7.30 am and walk around before going down to the Dome and back up through the old town houses. No problems with restaurant touts or trip sellers, just a pretty place to stroll in.

The road at Lapta is lined with souless tacky hotels. It doesn`t represent anything of the country other than commerce, even without people. Sorry, but we think it`s the worst part of the North.

On my trips I never really got to grips with Lapta. It was as if it wasn%26#39;t sure what it wanted to be.

The busy main road (and I mean BUSY) had hotels, restaurants and bars as well as commercial businesses (computer shops, hardware, curtains etc.) It%26#39;s one way in - one way out location meant that it could be a 45 minute bumper-to-bumper drive to Kyrenia.

It is a pity the harbour has become such hassle. It used to be that a polite %26quot;no thanks%26quot; or %26quot;I%26#39;ve eaten already%26quot; would suffice but it sounds like that has changed.
