Hi,

I am taking my sporty family to Latchi this year and want to play some golf and go riding. Can anyone recommend good courses/stables or good deals.

Thanks

Cyprus on the Irish Times.

I thought this might be of interest to the Cyprus forum:

I have only visited Paphos (lovely spot) so I can only presume that the contents are helpful

....although obviously not as reliable as the Cyprus forum:)

Traffic and building work and restaurant prices!!

Hi There,

We are thinking of going to Kyrenia next year for a holiday but am concerned about all the reviews regarding bulding work and also traffic congestion. Is it really that bad? I really dont want to hear the constant noise of building work going on!! Have looked at The Hideaway club and also the Pia Bella hotel. Please can someone also let me know how much eating out is and drinks? Have been to Cyprus (paphos and Protaris) and had brilliant holidays but thought the North may be more %26#39;unspoilt%26#39;? Please can I have some advice??

With Thanks x

|||

the traffic on the Kyrenia bypass is certainly a constant pain. If you stay at Hideaway you will be well away from this until you head for town. Pia Bella, although within the town, should be reasonably OK although it can get busy around the pool ( non residents may use it ).

Re eating out. Depends on what and where. Generally, traditional kebabs etc will be cheaper than international cuisine. 2 courses plus a beer or glass of wine about £8 per person ( trad), or £12 ( int). Of course, depending on where you go prices will vary a lot. The harbour will be expensive and usually not as good as those out of town or back from the sea.

|||

Thankyou for your help Gibson. Just one more question! Is the Hideaway Club near all the restaurants? Are there any in walking distance or would be have to take the bus or a taxi? Is there a bus running from near The Hideaway club or is it to remote? Thankyou for your help x

|||

Hideaway is not on any bus route that I know. It is in an area called Edremit and the last time I was there the only restaurant was almost next door, the rather swish Indian place Jashan. The area is about 1 mile inland from the sea and about 3 miles from town so taxis will be required to get to most restaurants. You will find several in Karaglanouglu which is on the main road about 3/4 mile from Hideaway. Some have great settings right on the sea.

|||

PS, why not hire a car for a couple of days to get familiar with the area then you can decide if you need one for more time- there are many excellent places within a few miles of Hideaway.

|||

Thankyou for your help. Hideaway looks lovely but was wondering if it%26#39;s maybe a bit too far out? How much are taxis to Kyrenia from there? Like the sound of the indian restaurant though! Do you know if its expensive and if the food is nice?

I appriciate your help!!!!!

Thanks x

|||

Sorry Gibson but I have another question for you!!!! Ive just typed in %26#39;Karaoglanoglu%26#39; in to a search engine and it came up with a few restaurants! Is this the place that is 3/4mile from The Hideaway club? If so thats not too far to walk for a meal and a few drinks!!! Is the road safe to walk along?

Thanks AGAIN x

|||

yes, that`s the right place. Depends on time of year for walking back ( uphill ). It regularly gets to over 38 C in July and August.

|||

Jashans used to be very expensive by local standards, particularly the drinks ( prices not on show, either! ). Food was superb, staff and equipment brought in from India. If you go there, make sure you check the table layout first and book one with the best view.

|||

The road was not busy last time I was there but might be now due to development. Some of local driving can be a bit %26quot;unpredictable%26quot; so keep alert just in case.

|||

Thankyou for your very quick and helpful replies! x

vangelis aparthotel?????

Can anyone tell me what vangelis is like shops bars restaurants nearby etc etc what is beach like? what is weather like may 13. thanks

|||

Ive stayed in the Vangelis when it first opened, it was fine, prime location in the middle of the strip, plenty of shops, bars and restaurants on the door step. Beaches superb, fig tree bay is nicer than some beaches ive seen in the Caribeean, ive been to Protaras 8 time, its fab

|||

Thanks for quick reply, is the beach really th at nice? blue water we have had to do a quick change from cancun so i am very happy to get such a positive answer from you, is the weather nice in may middle. thanks.

|||

Hi

Been to the vangelis twice. Basic but clean, good location and Fig Tree Bay is fabulous.

1 tip though. One of the apartment blocks is seperate from the other three you need to walk across the car park to use the pool and eating area, you could try to e-mail ahead and ask for a room actually in the complex, if my memory serves me i think it was Block A which was seperate i was in block C.

Been to this area of Cyprus 7 times now and booked again in september enjoy your hols you wont be disappointed.

Need any more info just post and i will try to help

Billy

|||

ive been to Cancun, and the sea at Fig Tree Bay is just as nice, its crystal clear, nice and sandy, go out to the little island and have a snorkel, i can be out there for a couple of hours. i usually go in september, let us know how you get on, any other questions just ask

|||

I%26#39;ve been to Protaras in May for the last 4 years and the weather has always been perfect for me. Temperatures between 25c and 30c are typical. definately wearing summer clothes for the whole holiday. Just one word of warning though, it can get a little cool (not cold!)in the evenings at this time of year so i would take a light top etc just in case.

I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll love Protaras,the beach is great with a calm sea, you can walk out into the sea for a fair way and still not be out of your depth. Crystal clear waters with the fish swimming around you. Can%26#39;t wait to be there myself in a weeks time!

|||

thanks cov those temps are more like it, i was getting a little worried for a sec.

|||

are you a red or a blue, im a big pool fan

|||

odessa hotel cyprus

Has anyone been to the odessa late last year or early this year? we were booked into the silver sands but have been moved and im really worried about the reports i have been reading about the odessa.

|||

Wouldn%26#39;t bother me too much getting moved to be honest.Both hotels are owned by Tsokkos so the food won%26#39;t be any different I wouldn%26#39;t think.A bit further to walk to the beach as the Odessa isn%26#39;t quite beachfront but much more space to relax in the grounds compared the the Silver Sands.The Odessa is 4 star as well compared to S/S being 3 star.

|||

Hi, when are you going? We are booked into the Odessa from 21st May, so I could report back to you if you want?

|||

hi we are going on the 10th may so might be able to give you a update

water

Do you still have to be careful about the water

ice in drinks salads and ice cream ????

|||

Water is 100% safe. I would say however, save water and use wisely we are still subject to water rationing. Tourists will suffer no shortages.

|||

Water is perfectly OK to drink in Cyprus.

|||

Is that true Kath.

2 years ago we was advised to drink bottled water,or were we being led on ?.We was told that it had a high level of minerals in it,and are weak English stomachs could`nt cope.LOL.

|||

we always have ice in our drinks eat the salads etc and have never ever had bad stomach in all the 9 times we have been so no worrys there.saying that we always buy loads of bottled water (we do that at home as well)its up to the individual.when its hot make sure you drink plenty fluids to get the kids drinking plenty get some diluting juice to add a bit flavour

|||

The water is and always has been safe to drink. It is a little hard in places but it is 100% safe to drink. Safe yourself a fortune and drink from the tap, if you want to remove some of the minerals there are tap filters available in supermarkets and DIY shops.

Building site

We were last in Cyprus ten years ago and loved it. what has happened? It%26#39;s just one enormous unfinished building site. Yes, I know that things move on and there has to be development but this was really a nasty shock. Fortunately once we moved back from the resorts and into the hills we found a more rewarding and beautiful scenario - not to mention less expensive and more authentic. I%26#39;m not sure that I want to revisit Southern Cyprus. Mind you, Larnaca Airport offers a far more humane experience than Gatwick!

|||

I think you have answered your own question, it has moved on. It may be stopping now, especially as far as tourist property is concerned. Prices rose so much that Cyprus overpriced it%26#39;s self. Alot of property on the market with nobody to buy it.

The mountains are still quieter than resorts but building work (commercial) seems to be moving further and further out of towns.

The North seems to be suffering in the same way, alot of unfinished property with nobody looking to buy, and recent news is sure to have adverse effects.

Shipping a car to Cyprus

We are shipping a car to Cyprus

Does anyone know of any companies that will do this

preferably the nearest to Essex

|||

Darren

Before you ship, make sure you are fully aware of the import costs, as they can mount up to quite a lump of money (depends on age of car)

Cheapest shipping is from southampton (open not containerised)

Have a contact No in cyprus who can help, do you need it?

paul

|||

Expensive, do your homework. In alot of cases it can work out cheaper to buy in Cyprus.

|||

As leica has mentioned but for one thing it depends on a number of factors

1) If you know your car is worth it mechanically sound

2) If it is upto 1600cc

then it is worth bringing it over, if it is a higher cc then it will cost a damn sight more in registration, tax and import duty, again cyprus is charging people or was for bringing in their own cars when you are allowed to bring your car over.

example in 2007 I shipped my 1600cc Hyundai Coupe from southampton on the roll-on roll-off for £375, picked it up at Limassol and I had to pay a shipping agent with goverment seal before I could drive away for CYP250, then paid CYP245 for the registration at the transport office.

So really it cost me just under a grand to bring it in and must say well worth it

Just remember if it is 1800cc or over the fee%26#39;s go up very very sharpely as well as Road tax, My friend has a Pedjero 2800cc and he pays somewhere between €400 - 500

kev

|||

Paul

Thanks for your reply

We have decided to ship our car over

The contact number you have in Cyprus may

be handy

Thanks

can we get a bus from fig tree area to aiya napa thanks

|||

Yes you can.During the day the service is good but I think it stops quite early,just in case you planned a late night.Enjoy.

|||

Best bars, restaurants

Could anyone advise on best, bars, restaurants, and as anyone stayed at the Tskos beach hotel

Weather in October

Hi All,

Looking at Cyprus for a family holiday last week in October - will I find the sun and what is the best resort to stay in - travelling with grandparents and huby and son age 7.

Any recomends - not been to this island at all so any help would be well recieved.

|||

hi

party of us went last year , 2 pensioner, a couple and family with children aged 9 and 11. we went to paphos which we loved , fairly flat to walk around . Get a car as it%26#39;s really easy to drive roads quiet , and drive on same side of road as us. Weather was lovely had no rain , take a few cardi%26#39;s as can get chilly after around 10 in evening. We are going back this year but to a different area six months to go and counting!!

Weather currently in Protaras

Hi, can anyone give me an idea of what the weather is like at the moment, coming to Protaras on 06th May - getting a bit worried as i%26#39;ve seen rain on some forecasts!??

Thanks for any info

Wine Tour

Hey

does anybody know of a company that does organised wine tours that i could get to from kapparis?

thanks

Atlantica Miramare Beach

We are trying to book a week at the Atlantica Miramare Beach Hotel Limassol last week of May, but all the sites tell us that you have to book a min 21 nite stay.

Can anyone who has booked before help with advise how to can get around this.

We are flying in from Dubai and looking for room only.

Regards

|||

Hi,my family and i have been to the Miramare many times and have not had that problem,we have stayed there for 1 and 2 weeks at a time.We have always booked with first choice travel,but know that other travel firms go to this hotel,we have been going there for quite a number of years now on a b %26amp; b basis.You dont say who your trying to book with ? is it a foreign company?

|||

Thanks buzz for your comments, we are trying to book via the hotel site and here on tripadvisor but will try your site and will let you know how we get on.

Regards

|||

Try using a Cypriot Travel Agent, as First Choice are ex UK prices. I recommend Suncare Travel who you can find on the web. Could be that the hotel has few rooms left free as that period covers half term. Try the agent and you could be lucky because the rooms unsold in the UK should be back on sale in Cyprus.

|||

Ring the hotel direct and ask to speak to the manager. I have a German couple visiting me at the moment, they rang the Four Seasons direct and got a twin room with breakfast for 40% less than tariff price. The more nights you stay the cheaper the deal, also ask for breakfast and room upgrade in with the price..

|||

I booked a one week stay for March this year for my daughter and her boyfriend through Olympic Holidays. We booked our flights seperately.

|||

Just like one of the other posters , phone the hotel direct , they will accomidate you no problem , I see people staying for a few days year after year %26amp; a week would be no prob with any decent travel agent or trip advisor .

Spending money for holiday in Paphos

My wife and I are making preparations for our holiday in Paphos next month and have not decided, yet, how much spending money to take, as well as our debit and credit cards - for when I am taken to my wife`s favourite jewellry shop near the harbour !

With the current exchange rate from sterling to the euro, can anyone, who has been to Paphos recently, let me know how they found the cost of everyday items out there in Paphos ? Has anyone had to take more money than last year or found their spending money did not go so far ?

Any information/feedback from anyone would be greatly received ?

Many thanks.

|||

I live here for most of the year, I am paid in Euros and have seen a rise in prices accross the board. The £ Euro exchange rate also adds to the price as the rate is so low.

I have many British friends, who have property here and they have noticed an increase on last year, at the moment it seems to be the topic of all conversations. Saying all of the above it depends where you are and the kind of holiday you have. Resorts are always more expensive, imported goods, food drink will be more expensive than the UK. It%26#39;s all about shopping around to notice the priceing variations, it%26#39;s down to you to say wether you feel it is good value for money or too expensive.

Enjoy your stay, and watch the credit card in the jewellry shop !

|||

Hi

We go out to Cyprus regularly, when Cyprus converted from CY£ to euros, we were getting an exchange rate of eur 1.24/£ and we were spending an extra £1 on every £8 we spent. When we were there last week we got eur 1.10/£ so everything was even dearer.

There are still some good deals, if you fancy a nice meal, Vienna Bistro are letting you pay in sterling at a rate of eur2/£1, we had a great steak there, and Eur85.00 cost £42.50.

Karen

|||

We came back yesterday. Prices are high. For the average meal (and I mean very average in quality as well as price!)for two with a carafe of wine allow €45, more if you want to eat at the port. Two lattes were €7 at the first bar in the port, everywhere is charging at leat €2 for a nescafe. Some places are offering discounts for early diners, depends where you are staying. We were at the Tasmaria on Tomb of the Kings Road, the Metaxas restaurant signposted on a road opposite gives 20% off if you order before 7:15. They claim they have reduced their prices since last year. Main courses (chicken and fish) were about €11-12, and the menu was a lot more varied than elsewhere (sauces!). Steaks were about €28 and not included in the discount offer.

We checked our Nationwide flex account today and got €1.11 to the pound, the rates we saw on offer were €1.O4-€1.08

Bus fares are €1.50 if you want to go to Pafos Ktima. If you are hiring a car, petrol is still cheaper than here 0.81-0.86/litre.

Hope this helps!

weather in evening

whats the weather like in the evening in protaras end of may beg of june please ?????????????????

|||

Nice and warm. I doubt you will need a cardie!

|||

Hi

It%26#39;s very warm still in the evenings, you wont need a cardi or anything.

|||

Although not cool in the evenings, night. I would always take a cardi, if you have been in the sun all day you will notice a difference after 9pm. My wife and mother always seem to feel a chill until we get into July, even then they have a cardi or wrap with them.

|||

We holidayed the same two weeks last year and I found the need for a shrig the first few nights as it was on the breezy side, afterwards was fine, take one just in case.

Avanti village holiday resort.

We have booked to go back to Kefalos Beach in August but yesterday we received a letter from Thomas Cook to say the hotel had been %26quot;oversold%26quot; and that we have been moved to Avanti village.

We are gutted.We booked back in december to get the holiday we wanted and thomas cook say they cant do anything about it.Actually we contacted the manager at the Kefalos and he wasnt too impressed with the situation.

If all our protests fail,can anyone give us some feedback on the Avanti village?Reviews we have read are quite favourable but any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

|||

Yes the Avanti is very good, well maintained but to toss up between the Avanti against the Kefalos I would choose the latter

Having said all that I have always said at the end of the day all I need is a bed and pillow to put my little head on at night and as long as it is clean and tidy, that will do me. That may be an injustice to the Avanti as it is very nice complex

Kev

|||

Thanks cypruspiper.The Kefalos can accomodate us later in August but the kids are back at school and we wouldnt be back in time.

Last summer was our first trip to cyprus and the reason we liked Kefalos was its position by the beach.It was very hot but sitting on the beach or grass verge there was a breeze which made it more bearable.

Oh well it looks like we are off to the Avanti after all.Are there lots of nice restaurants nearby without having to go into the harbour every night?

|||

My sister has stayed at the Avanti Village and thoroughly enjoyed it. It%26#39;s in a good location with plenty of bars and restaurants at the %26#39;Triangle%26#39; nearby(you%26#39;ll soon find it when you get there).

Can understand your disappointment, but I think you%26#39;ll still have a lovely holiday.

pafian park

hi has anyone stayed in pafian park?,going in 2 weeks and im hearing mixed reports?is it really far from the centre?

|||

We%26#39;re going to this hotel in July so I would really appreciate any feedback. We%26#39;re not so worried about location, more so the hotel itself. We have heard mixed reports as well so would be interested to hear your thoughts, thanks.

|||

When I went 2 years ago the staff were very friendly.

The hotel is quite a way from the centre of Paphos, but the bus stop is just at the top of the road, and quite cheap. Enjoy!

vangelis sister hotel?

does vengalisa hotel have sister hotels in other cyprus resrts where you can visit and have a meal and use their all inclusive. thanks

atlantic oasis, limassol

Has anyone stayed at this hotel just looking to book and has mixed reviews

|||

Stayed it when it was the Atlantica , but went in last year it looked aok , very much for a family enviroment , we are staying at the miramare again this coming year , good standard all round I would say , Ive done a review .... have a look.

Theo Sunset Bay Holiday Village Hotel

Hi,

I have been trying to find a map of Paphos hotels so that I can determine the distance between the Theo Sunset Bay Holiday Village Hotel and the Paphos Amathus Hotel.

I%26#39;ve not visited Paphos before and we are attending a Wedding at the Amathus and wondered if the Sunset Bay is a little too far out.

Can anyone offer any advice or point me in the direction of a paphos hotel map that shows these two hotels?!

Thanks in advance

|||

Hi

I would estimate that the Amathus is approx 8km away from the Theo Sunset Village.

The Amathus is in Kato Paphos and the Theo Sunset village is in Kissonerga ( a suburb of paphos on the way to Coral Bay). It would take 10-15 mins in the car, definitely too far to walk.

Karen

easyjet seating plan

Does anyone know where I get information on easyjets seating plan, especially for cyprus flights.

Thanks

|||

From what I know about flying in the UK with Easyjet. That is unless it has change. You board %26amp; find your own seat. You cant book a particular seat.

|||

Thanks, but I know that. I just need a seating plan for all their aircraft so I can see which are the best seats.

|||

Best seats ?

On a plane ?

With Easy jet ?

Jesus

|||

Where are you flying from? We normally fly with EJ from Manchester, extra legroom seats are row 1, 12 and 13 (12 does not recline). We flew recently with EJ from Gatwick, different plane, again rows 1 and 13.

Karen

|||

%26quot;extra legroom seats are row 1, 12 and 13%26quot;

If you`re lucky enough to get the first call,you might head for any of those seats.Row 1,right next to the toilet,row 13 right next to the toilet,you can guess where 12 is.You want 4 hours of extra leg room ?

Good luck.

|||

cezma,

WHY ?

|||

Best seats on an Easyjet flight are those with no one sitting in them. ;-)

Otherwise

seatguru.com/airlines/easyJet_Airlines/easyJ…

|||

Hi, look at seatguru.com and go to e for easyjet it gives you a good seating plan, hope this helps

|||

Easyjet are using the planes that BA were using as GB from LGW/PFO. I found the leg room to be very acceptable and superior to the charter flights.

|||

As someone else said, the planes are former GB Airways - if you book speedy boarding you might even get lucky and get a business class seat (we couldn%26#39;t, they had sold out!)

Could someone tell me what the weather in ayia napa is like?

Hi fly to ayia napa in a week to get married and i am realy concerned over the weather,as is it seems to be raining most days. Fly the 13th and get married 20th. Thanks

Polis/Lachi

Is it possible to walk between Polis and Latchi ? If so how far is it ?? And what are the beaches like ?

Also is their traverns with local people working in them with traditional music/ dancing or are the Eastern Europeans working there ??

I will be there from the 5th May so not sure how quite it will be ?

Thanks

|||

It%26#39;s certainly possible to walk between Polis and Latchi. You%26#39;ll pass through Pomos first which consists of a few shops you could take a look around - mainly restaurants and and small kiosks. After Pomos you%26#39;ll have to do a fair old walk through A-type roads until you reach the main part of Lachi.

The weather here at the moment (April 27th) isn%26#39;t too bad. Mid 20%26#39;s, drifting down to the mid teens during the evening. It%26#39;s fair to say it%26#39;s quiet here at the moment. We travelled out to Latchi the other evening and there wasn%26#39;t a soul in sight.

Latchi is somewhat of a man made tourist resort that relies on tourists. From talking to the locals they%26#39;re not expecting the main influx of people until mid June.

The peace and quiet is fantastic though. :)

Paulo.

Maybe got my geography wrong but isnt Pomos the other side of Polis to Latchi - we drive from Latchi via Polis to Pomos further along the coast ?????

From Latchi you can walk (or cycle along the beach path) along the sea front to the beach at Polis - the town is then about a 10-15 minute walk inland up from the beach The beaches are a a bit stoney and gritty but the swimming is good.

|||

Just come to me - I think you mean Prodromi which is between the two resorts.

|||

Pomos is the other way towards the border. If you have never been it is lovely.

|||

We visited Polis and Latchi many years ago, where are you staying %26quot;upthedons%26quot;? The prices for hotels in Paphos and Ayia Napa I feel are more expensive this year and we would like a change.

|||

Forgot to mention - there is an excellent Tourist Info office in Polis. Lots of maps, books and staff keen to help.

|||

After hearing all the stories of how expensive it is in Cyprus now, we changed our mind and are now going to Egypt on Sunday....Im sure im not the only one who will do this...

Sorry Cyprus but we,re not made of money

|||

Doh, yep I meant Pedromi. Pomos is another kettle of fish when it comes to driving, nevermind walking to :)

Sorry to hear you didn%26#39;t decide to go to Cyprus. - Have to admit it was a tad expensive for oursevles (just got back), but we kinda expected it. If you go for the pre-concieved idea you%26#39;re going to be able to spend 80p on a cup of coffee, Cyprus, or the EU for that matter, just isn%26#39;t for you.

Insider info needed on Paphos?! ;o)

I%26#39;m planning on treating my parnets (60yrs), brother (35yrs) and boyfriend (40yrs)break in paphos in mid July and would like a 3 bed villa (preferably with own pool)

BUT... I%26#39;ve never been to paphos or cyprus before - where would be good to stay - looking to be close to beach / sea but near enough to walk to bars %26amp; resturants to when we need a bit of a break from the parents... not too commercialised though XXX

THANKS XXX

|||

Hi

Before we lived here we always booked through www.rent-villas-paphos.co.uk. Its run by a very helpful guy called Steven.

I%26#39;d suggest almost anywhere in Kato Paphos would fit your bill. There%26#39;s an area called Universal where there are a load of villas and apartments that are an OK walk to the sea and an OK walk into the middle of Kato Paphos to eat.

We stayed in a three bedroom apartment called Marina Complex - it was excellent!

Best

Mike

|||

Hi Mike,

sorry to gatecrash the thread but noticed you have stayed at the Marina Complex in Universal area. I have rented an apartment here for June. Can you give me some info on complex please?

Thanks

Ian

|||

Sure Ian, what would you like to know?

Mike

|||

Hi Mike. Thanks for reply. I have little info on complex. Is it near Pambis resaurant? Is the complex quiet and any good? Any info of the surrounding arae is appreciated

Thanks

Ian

|||

I can also recommend the link that Mike has provided.

We stayed in one of the apartments managed by Steve and his team and we couldn%26#39;t have asked for better service.

They have a pretty good selection of apartments and villas in and around Paphos.

As well as the Universal Area, the Queens Gardens complex is in a very good location.

|||

Hi, I was wondering if the Queens Gardens apartments in Kato Paphos are set well back from the main road, are they in a quiet area and is there lots of building work going on? Can you walk down to the main centre quite easily i.e. Bar Street etc.Do we need to be taking taxis?

Thanks

Kathleen/Aberdeen

|||

Hi Madgolfer100

I have gone past the complex your referring to and it is a quiet area, not to far walking distance to the harbour, Pambis Restaurant I have been reliable been informed is very nice and reasonable, there is another not far from the complex called Exo Vissi

Kev

|||

Kathleen - the Queens Gardens complex is right on the main road quite close to the main set of traffic lights and next to the large area of wasteland where they put the fairground in high season. I haven%26#39;t been on the complex itself so I can%26#39;t say whether you hear any noise.

It is ideally located for the Tombs of the Kings Road and for the harbour area and I wouldn%26#39;t imagine having to use any public transport there at all because both areas are within comfortable walking distance.

|||

Thanks for your reply, look forward to our holiday, sounds good

Bars and restaurants near Atlantica Aeneas Hotel

We are travelling to this hotel on Sunday for 1 week half board, does anyone know of any bars and snack bars nearby?

|||

Yeah great question, we are travelling on sunday too and would love any info on any bars near the hotel!

Lets keep oout fingers crossed for good weather!

Ascos beach hotel

Could anyone please tell me if the Ascos Beach Hotel has laundry facilities?

|||

Yes, as far as I can see from everyone%26#39;s web sites on the hotel that they do have laundry facilities.

|||

Thanks a million for the reply, we are going on Tuesday, now i can take some of the tee shirts etc out of the cases :-))

|||

Our hotel had laundry facilities which were a bit pricey but I am assuming you are staying at Ascos Coral Beach in Coral bay? There is a really good laundrette on the right as you turn down the road to the Ascos Coral hotel from the main coral bay strip. We went three times. Dropped the washing off in the morning, a huge basket full including beach towels etc and it was never more than 7 Euros a load. They were ready to collect by 2pm. We didn%26#39;t opt for getting them ironed too as we had an iron in the hotel and they didn%26#39;t take much ironing but it was great for beach towels and T-Shirts and way cheaper than the price per item charged by our hotel.

Hope this helps.

Almost there!

Well, out first trip to Paphos is now only a few days away and we can%26#39;t wait.

The weather in the UK has been pretty good of late but looking forward to some sun and warmth - what%26#39;s the latest weather?

Thanks to all who have helped provide feedback and suggestions over the last few weeks.

A little concerned we might not have enough cash but hey bread and water in the sun is fine.

take care all and I will feedback on my return in a couple of weeks!

|||

Look forward to hearing from you when you get back. Have a lovely time.

|||

ah it%26#39;s not doom and gloom it really is not that expensive just live within your means

enjoy

Kev

|||

By the time you get there you won%26#39;t care, just make the most of the hot weather and just remember you always eat less in the heat....well I do!!!

beach/pool towels

Hi Guys . Traveling to Ascos Coral Beach Hotel on Friday of this week .Rather trivial subject but does anyone know if they provide towels for use around the pool?.It just saves a few Kgs if they do .I emailed the hotel no answer obviously not thought important enough to reply.I am now turning to the experts for my answer .Looking forward to your responses.

Cheers

Mike.

|||

Now don%26#39;t take this as gospel but a friend of mine stayed there three years ago and said that they did provide them then. If you get out there and there aren%26#39;t any you can pick up a couple of cheap towels in the local shops and then ditch them at the end of your stay.....also helps to reduce the weight in your suitcase but means you have nothing to protect your bottles of vino with!!!!

Enjoy your hols.

|||

Hi There. Thanks for the info I think your friend is right .I was trawling some of the reviews when I came across a professional complainer he said they did provide towels for the pool area but he was moaning that he had to pay a RETURNABLE deposit of 30 euros .We have always been charged deposits at other hotels through out Europe so I really wonder what they would do if they couldn%26#39;t complain or moan.I think I may have cracked it, his 30 euros were only worth 29.80 euros at the end of his two week stay so it has cost him ,Sad person.

We are out there on Saturday morning can%26#39;t wait .Again thanks for your help.

Exchanging Money

Do the banks in Peyia charge for changing sterling or travellers cheques?

|||

Hi chick123

All the banks charge commission when changing sterling or travellers cheques. Most kiosks however are commission free. At the moment the exchange rate is 1.09 euro to the pound sterling and some of the kiosks are 1.10 for travellers cheques. I always use a kiosk because you can work the amount you will receive easily yourself.

Hope this helps

restaurants in ayia napa

iam off to ayia napa in two weeks time, i would be grateful for any recommendations of nice restaurants.

|||

I was in Ayia Napa last September with my girlfriend. A number of restaurants had been recomended to us before we went. We weren%26#39;t disappointed with any.

By far the best (and most entertaining) was Sapporo, a Japanese restaurant where the food is cooked at your table by the chef who puts on a little show for you as he is cooking. Not to be missed.

Other favourites included:-

La Bandidos - A fantastic Mexican which like Sapporo gets very busy so you may need to book. You must try the Strawberry Margaritas to finish off your meal.

Palazzo Bianca - a very nice Italian.

La Belle Epoque - gorgeous food in a nice setting

Limelight - always busy and once we%26#39;d tasted the spit roasted lamb we knew why.

Clarabels - Great choice, nice food and resonably priced

I wouldn%26#39;t hesitate to visit any of these places again but generally believe in the rule that if a place is busy its worth a try. If its quiet then that tells you all you need to know!

|||

I second that about the Japanese restaurant, I beleive there are actually 2 in differnet parts of Ayia Napa, both the same company. I have been to one of them many times and both the food and entertainment was great. There are so many restaurants in Ayia Napa, hard to know where to start, although some don%26#39;t open until later in the year.

|||

Sorry to jump on your subject, but which restaurants do you recommend for a wedding reception i.e meal after our wedding at G Sands Hotel

Thanks

Sarah x

|||

Sarah, the Castelli is absolutely terrific.

Lovely surroundings and gorgeous food presented like works of art! Large numbers of

Cypriots eat there on the weekends so you know its good food - prices won%26#39;t break the bank either!

Located just down from the Rooks Rest or

opposite the Napa Plaza.

|||

Me and my boyfriend went to ayia napa last year and stayed in the olympic lagoon, lovely hotel! I would reccommend castelli%26#39;s restaurant and also a fantastic restaurant called the garden of eden. It was really superb. To get there simply walk away from the direction of the town centre, towards Adams beach hotel. eventually you will get to olympic lagoon. keep walking down that road and it%26#39;s about 5 minutes from olympic lagoon on the right. Let me know wat you think!

|||

We just returned from Ayia Napa and currently many of the restaurants are closed since it is off-season. Maybe it will be more open in two weeks.

The best restaurant we found was Tony%26#39;s Taverna. Genuine, cosy environment and delicious greek food!

Napiana was also a very good alternative.

Enjoy your stay! / Terese

|||

We went to Ayia napa last year %26amp; some one recomended us to try Bluberries %26amp; it turned out it was the best restaurant we have been to,the food is fantastic,reasonanable %26amp; the restaurant is family run %26amp; they can not do enough for you,great food great people,I can understand now why people go back again %26amp; again.REALLY MADE OUR HOLIDAY

Wedding at Elias Beach - Limassol

Hi everyone,

I want to get married at the Elias beach in Limassol and was just wondering if anyone had already been married there? I just have a few question and wondered if anyone would be able to answer please??

1 -What is the venue like?

2 - Is the food ok and would it be ok for children?

3- Do you get a choice of things like flowers and cake?

4 - what are the legal requirements for getting married in cyprus?

If anyone has any photos i would be very grateful.

Im thinking of booking the wedding through first choice holidays but so far they havnt been very helpful in answering some of the questions.

many thanks

Michelle x

|||

Hi Michelle,

I have stayed at the Elias Beach Hotel many years ago but I have not personally attended any wedding there.

However, I strongly urge you to consider using a private wedding planner. I have a few friends who got married through either First Choice or Thomas Cook and spoke of their frustration of their lack of communication and interaction. One of my friends used a private wedding planner and she had a smooth communication flow with her.

If you want, I can send you a private message of the wedding planner my friend used.

For your information, Elias Beach Hotel is by the beach and has its own country club. You an go horse riding or archery and a few other things there. As far as I can remember, the hotel was child and family friendly.

As for legal requirements, I suggest that you look at this page which explains all of this.

vasiliasweddings.co.uk/weddings_in_cyprus/…

I hope that I managed to help you out a bit!

Leah :)

|||

Hello Michelle

I live in Cyprus and I know the hotel from outside and looks wonderful. The area is also very good and you can find some reviews of vacations and traveler photos on this site:

If you want some more information you can email the hotel here:

|||

Hi all

Thank you for your reply%26#39;s i have decided not to use first choice as there seems to be many complaints about them.

Leah i would be very grateful if i could have the details of the wedding planner you mentioned please its getting very frustrating now trying to find the best person to organise my wedding..

many thanks

Michelle xx

|||

Hi Michelle

I have sent you a message withdetails of a good planner in Limassol, she has been in the planning business for many years %26amp; she also has a favors shop. You are far better to go with someone from that particular area as she will have better knowledge of the hotel management %26amp; suoppliers

weather next 2 weeks?

hey everyone,going 2 paphos on sunday and would like 2 know what the weather is going 2 be like,coz im getting all different temps on the net?,if any locals would give me any advice it would be great xx

|||

Us locals rely on the same media for our weather forecast. What I can say is it will be warm and in the main sunny, cooler in the evenings. It may be windy after 1pm and there is always a chance of heavy showers in May.

spa

anyone know of a good spa or beauty place in protaras. Does one of the hotels do a spa

Where 2 Eat Good Fresh Food at Reasonable Prices in Limassol

Hi there could anyone give any good place%26#39;s they have eaten,that are good and reasonably priced in limassol. iam staying at the arsnoie hotel and don%26#39;t want to travel no more than five to 10 mins by taxi or even better easily close to walk to. Also what if any has changed in price since turning 2 the euro in cyprus, as i was last in cyprus before the euro.

|||

Hi there

I know where you are staying and there are plenty of retaurants and eating places around there , we stay further down the strip just behind the police station . I would suggest %26quot;the Sevilla%26quot; , which is on americana street , very resonable , authentic Cypriot fare %26amp; not bad prices as well as very quiet surroundings, another is %26quot;CHARADES%26quot; top qauality food , a bit more expensive bur air conditioned , on the main road close to the star bucks on the left hand side of the road also one more which is closer to you , just along the road from macdonalds %26quot; Cantonne%26quot; , very resonable , outside or inside %26amp; very friendly staff , set menu not bad here ... SHORT TAXI RIDE OR NO 6 OR 3O BUS

as far as the euro goes theis is there second year with it , but there currency has been linked for a number of years .... no doubt about it , a bit more expensive than in the past .

ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAY

|||

Plenty of places to eat where you are staying. It%26#39;s all down to choice such a wide variety. Look out for boards outside eateries for specials. Ten minutes by taxi, the old market. Try Petros for lunch, special sandwiches and very fresh juice and still cheap.

Prices are higher for Brits but all prices are displayed so you can spot a bargain and looking yesterday many places are trying to attract custom with cheaper prices.

|||

Thank You both very much APPRECIATED. Will try out a few of ure suggestions and look out for some good deals.

|||

Stretto in the old carob mills by the castle. LOVE it there!

Mobile phones and internet

Hi

I have heard that it is cheaper to buy a cypriot sim card to use in my mobile whilst in Cyprus - is this true?

I am also interested to know if you can get mobile broadband on a pay as you go deal.

Thanks

Jules

|||

Hi Jules

Yes it is cheaper to buy a Sim then use your english sim, not sure about the broadband

Kev

|||

Typo Kev??

|||

Hi Kev

Thanks for you reply, another couple of questions though!!

Is there a one particular sim card that you would recommend and where do i get it from?

Thanks Jules

|||

Hi Jules

Most common one is SoEasy and the other is Arriba, I think Arriba is a bit cheaper

You can get them in any Kiosk in €5, 10 and €20

Kev

|||

Areeba is now MTN so don%26#39;t get confused if you can%26#39;t find it!

CL

|||

Thanks for your answers.

Jules

|||

Just come back from Paphos and free wifi was everywhere. Almost every bar/cafe had it and you could even pick it up away from these places (we saw people sitting in bus stops using their laptops). Remember, wifi isn%26#39;t usually constrained by walls so if next door has free wifi, you can probably pick it up too.

|||

Don%26#39;t forget you will need to take an unlocked phone with you. We have had our Cyta soeasy sim for several years now, you get a year to top it up or it expires, and then you would need to buy a new sim. We bought ours from a very helpful shop in Paphos called Hadjimitsis.

where to stay in May for the 1st time in Cyprus

Hi,

Advice needed!We%26#39;re looking to book a week towards the end of May and have been advised that Cyprus is good weather then. We%26#39;ve never been before so suggestions would be good. We%26#39;re 44, like boats and marinas and hate %26quot;Blackpool%26quot; style resorts. We like walking around, a bit of sunbathing by a pool and eating out near a harbour at night. 4* and as kid free as possible!! Suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

|||

Hi,

You will enjoy Paphos, we are of there for our third time towards the end of May. If you are looking for a kid free hotel. Try the Pioneer Beach Hotel. It is right on the beach %26amp; not to close to the main stream hustle %26amp; bustle.But close enough if you know what I mean.

Try a look at there website www.pioneer-cbh.com

|||

Polis Latchi is a beautiful area to stay....driving is easy in Cyprus, hire a car and see the rest of the island...Enjoy yr holiday

|||

Hi kidfreenow

A person after my own heart (kid free) We have been to Cyprus for many years now and we always stay at the Alexander the Great Beach hotel, in our opinion the best hotel we have ever stayed in! great location, great food, very clean, staff are lovely and are very helpful, added bonus not many kids at all and you have your own private beach and not to mention it is a 5* too (cant get any better than this)

You are only 5-10 mins walk from the fantastic harbour, which has some lovely restaurants, I would definatley recommend a day boat trip really good fun and very relaxing.

Would definatley also recommed hiring a car (do this through hotel very easy and good rates) we went all over the crete and saw some fantastic sights along the way, and even better they drive on the same side as us so very easy to get around.

You will have the best time here its just pure heaven!

Have fun and enjoy

If you need info on good trips or restaurants let me know and I would be happy to help.

|||

Sorry I meant to say Paphos not Crete (although Crete is very noce too)

Too eary in the morning for me I think!!

Sorry

|||

Hi Kidfreenow!!

I think I would agree with Riddon poster who mentions Polis and Latchi. Paphos can at times resemble Blackpool in the shops along the front, but then a lot of mediterranean resorts have gone like this to accommodate the British tourist. Polis and Latchi are quiter and a bit more unspoilt. You will need a car as it is quite remote and there will be less kids there too. A word or warning that if you are going the end of May and want kids free, the kids will be on whi hols from 22 May to 31 May!!! so you may wish to avoid this week and especially as the prices are sky high!!!

Hope this helps

Fiona (who can only dream of being kids free!!!)

|||

Good advise from MinnieFiona. As she says kids will be on holiday and it the start of the season. Paphos is a resort, 99% of it%26#39;s visitors are British and it does have areas that resemble British tourist resorts, so it gears up accordingly. The better hotels 5* are located in Limassol and genrally cater for a mix of nationalities, and are situated at the far end of the tourist area.

If you are looking for peace and quiet Polis/Latsi would be a better option but the hotels are genrally in the mid range category, but the area is less touristy, food is genrally good quality,fresh and not so many kids around.

|||

Hi Kidfreenow

I am 44 and live here in Paphos. I hate %26#39;Blackpool%26#39; and would never visit there when I lived in the UK.

Paphos is nothing like Blackpool. No amusements, no tacky shops, no loud music blaring etc. There are tourist shops selling most of the same things but not tacky. Some nice restaurants, bars etc not just at the harbour but the road leading to it. Nice to sit there day or night watching people go by. We stayed at the Athena Royal when we holidayed in Paphos. Adult only hotel which is quite a new build located on the beach. Not as far out as the Pioneer.

The only downside is the ticket touts down by the harbour stopping you with scratchcards. Just be firm with them and carry on walking. Took me a couple of visits before I fell in love with Cyprus but give it a go and make up your own mind. Weather will be lovely anyway. Hope you enjoy your holiday wherever you go!

|||

Hi

For a kid free Hotel try Athena Royal Beach Hotel, like Pioneer Beach Hotel it%26#39;s an Adult only!

Check out the reviews!

|||

Many thanks everyone. You%26#39;ve given us plenty food for thought. Our 3 girls are grown up now (they think) so we%26#39;re out of touch with school hol dates.

We%26#39;re off to Puerto Pollensa on 6th July so will have to overlap very slightly with the May school holidays or we won%26#39;t get to fit it in.

Thanks again. Great %26quot;real%26quot; advice.

Taxi from Larnaca airport to Pernera/Protaras.

Please could anyone tell me the average cost of a taxi from the airport and if this changes after a certain time?

Also does anyone have any contact numbers to arrange one before we arrive.

Thanks Karen.

|||

if you go onto website for grabthatcab you will be able to book a taxi it was 55 erous the last time i used them and they are reliable.

|||

55 euros during the day and 65 euros at night and thats without the obligatory tip - one way - total rip off but you can%26#39;t do anything about it - you have to get to your destination and they know it! Grabthatcab very reliable though.

|||

I looked at getting a hire car (we are going for 2 weeks but don%26#39;t want a car for all that time). I looked at picking one up at the airport on 1/5 and getting them to pick it up on 3/3 and it%26#39;s approx £75. I guess there%26#39;s just petrol costs on top of this..

I guess we%26#39;d have to do the same on the way back, that%26#39;s a reason I%26#39;m considering just getting a cab. Looks like grabthatcab is well recommended here..

Still very undecided as to whether to get a cab or get a hire car!!!

What does everyone normally tip in Cyprus for airport transfers by cab?

|||

On tips, I give nothing. Taxi fares have gone up 70% in 6 years and there is no justification for this. It%26#39;s down you what you would like to give. You will not be greeted with an outstretched hand wanting more money.

|||

Thanks for all the info.

Sum007 we too are arriving on 1st may at lunch time.

Does anyone know how easy it is to get a bus from airport?

Karen

|||

There are shuttle buses but sorry I%26#39;m not much help with timings but to be honest do you really want to hang about waiting for a bus after a long tiring flight. I%26#39;d just pay up for a taxi, get to your destination and start enjoying your holiday.

|||

Hi, thanks for all your tips, appreciated. We are thinking of booking Grabthatcab and it%26#39;s 49 euros to Ayia Napa.

We get there mid afternoon.. I think in some ways paying for a cab is at least fast and better than the airport transfers where you have to wait for everyone and drop off at lots of hotels!

|||

Think we will get a taxi thanks.

sum007, sorry made a mistake, had a hard day at work. We go to Italy 1st may and cyprus not until end of September.

Think I need a holiday LOL.

|||

Hi Karen,

You can send an E/mail to Mr John at info@cy-taxi.com (also has his own web site of www.cy-taxi.com) and he will reply with a price.

We were qouted 55 euros each way. Mr John is very well known in Protaras as he also arranges trips and we always use him.

Debbie

|||

If you don%26#39;t like the price of a taxi there is always the bus. As long as you arrive in daytime there are buses to Larnaca and from the same stop on the promenade you can get the bus to Protaras.

€55 for a taxi is reasonable for the distance, you pay more than that for the same mileage in UK.

Hotel needed close to Hawaii Grand

Hi there

I will be attending a wedding in May which is located in the Hawaii Grand, although 7 days stay is a little out of my price range, can anyone advise of a cheaper hotel close enough where I can still mingle daily with the wedding party.

Any help is much appreciated

|||

Hi

The Elias beach hotel is next to the Hawaii Grand. It%26#39;s a 4star hotel and cheaper.

|||

the St Raphael is the other side of the Grand. We have stayed twice and always found staff, food and accomodation second to none.

|||

For a 3* you could try the Arsinoe or the Navarria. They are the nearest good 3* hotels to the Hawaii Grand and the No. 30 bus would take you there easily. A taxi back if it is late will not be too expensive.

Hen Night in Paphos

Hello,

My sister is getting married at the Coral Bay Beach hotel in Paphos in August. During our stay in Paphos we are staying at the St George%26#39;s Hotel. I want to organise a hen night for her while we are there, somewhere with entertainment a good mezo but really traditional to keep in with the theme of the wedding etc. I went to Paphos last year and went to a brilliant restaurant with a glass balancing glasses and dancers and we all got up and danced after and it had an excellent atmosphere. But can%26#39;t remember what it%26#39;s called. I have surfed the net and it looks like it could be Demokritos which everybody highly recommends for this type of night. All I can remember is that it had an area for kids with a big swing and slide. Do you think it%26#39;s Demokritos??????

Any other suggestions for places that might be good for a hen night. Want a cute little taverna with entertainement but most of all we can all get up for a bottle after our Meze.

Thanks for any help you can give in advance.

Hi Melanie,

I%26#39;m afraid I can%26#39;t answer your question, but my sister is also getting married at the coral bay beach hotel in 2010 and I have to arrange her hen night in Paphos. I was hoping that maybe after you come back you could let me know how you got on and give me some recommendations, we%26#39;d also like to do the traditional Meze dinner and then party afterwards, I%26#39;d really love if you could let me know anything you can, so I can try and arrange things for her before we go.

Hi Melanie

Yes right first time it IS Demokritos

D%26amp;P

|||

Hi,

Demokritos is the right place and name for the taverna that does music and glass balancing acts. This is probably the best place for you girls to eat at and have fun because you are all on the Bar Street. You can hit the bars and the clubs after you%26#39;ve finished with Demokritos.

Thomson Flight

Hi Folks,

Need some help, We are booked to come to Cyprus from Manchester on 4th July flight is TOM2650.

I phoned Thomson to upgrade seats to extra leg room as hubby has long legs but they can only upgrade one of us as my daughter is only 13 and therefore not able to site in extra leg room seats.

From what I%26#39;ve checked the plane is a boeing 757 but I%26#39;ve not been able to find a seating plan for a Thomson plane - does anyone know how they are laid out? Is it two, three , two in rows?

Any help would be gratefully received.

|||

757 seats are 3/3

Thomson don%26#39;t have a page on www.seatguru.com, but check Thomas Cook as there are 3 configurations there.

|||

Thanks for that - I%26#39;ll have a look at Thomas Cook.

Much appreciated.

Cheap Holidays in a more family friendly area of Aiya Napa

Hi wondering if anyone can assist. A family member of mine is getting married in Adams beach in Nissi Bay, cyprus. I cant afford that hotel, Im just wondering if anyone one knows anywhere thats a bit cheaper, but stil clean. The most important thing as well that it needs to be family friendly as I have a nine year old and dont want to get caught up in the clubing scene. The wedding is at the end of this month so I need to book soon.

I was looking at Protaras and that seems ideal really but is it too far from nissi, would it be easy to travel too and from there.

Hope someone can assist

Thanks

|||

Have you thought of renting a private apartmet as i rented one last year at nissi golden sands which is just across the road from adams beach hotel they were brand new apartments with communual pool lovely

and clean large balconys which were a great suntrap we rented ours from protaras property terri lowry was who arranged it all for us.also kapparis property

rent apartments on this site as well.could not fault

a thing we had microwave,washing machine,iron+ironing

board so no need to take travel iron fridge freezer,

cooker all brand new cutlery and crockery still had ikea stickers on

|||

Getting from Protaras to Nissi Beach by taxi / car is a fairly easy trip and should not take more than 30 mins. It is that perennial question of one area being cheaper than another. I have only stayed in the Pavlo Napa hotel near Nissi but that is quite expensive. Other TA%26#39;s may be able to assist with cheaper options of where to stay in the Niss area.

Hope you sort something out and enjoy your holiday.

Please help: Transportation - Larnaca to Ayia Napa

We%26#39;ll be arriving at Larnaca Airport next Friday at 4am.

We%26#39;re looking for information on:

1) How to get from Larnaca to the Napa Plaza hotel in Ayia Napa

2) Approximate cost of transportation

Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you!!!

|||

The choice is really between hiring a car for your stay from the airport and returning it when you leave, or getting a taxi. Grabthatcab quote 58 euros each way at night for your journey on their website, if you want to prebook. Alternatively there will be taxis at the airport, just make sure you agree a price before you get in.

|||

Thanks for your response! We definitely won%26#39;t be hiring a car, so a taxi is a good option.

Does anyone else have experience with taxing a taxi from larnaca to ayia napa? Just trying to confirm the price as well as how long it will take.

Thanks again... 1.5 weeks and counting.. CAN%26#39;T WAIT!!!

|||

hi I am going to ayia napa on Monday and have booked my transfers with holiday taxis..

I think the website is www.holidaytaxis.co.uk - if not just google them. they are quite good :-)

aloe hotel, beach towels

i wonder if someone could let me know if this hotel provides beach towels as going next wednesday, thank you in advance for your replies.

|||

You get a towel each for the sun beds by the pool. On check in you are given a card which entails you to a towel per person, I believe they mention not to take them on to the beach but only round the pool. This is because they do not own the beach.

|||

thank you very much for your prompt response

tasiana apts limassol

I have booked Tasiana apts in July, since which time I have read so many awful reviews I am now starting to panic! do I need to book elsewhere. anyone have any opinions, up to date info on state of apts? very grateful for news.

|||

Did you book it because it was the right price for you. If so you should expect basic and now the apartments are getting old but many people still return year after year. Not knowing how much you paid makes it difficult but they still pass the test for the tourist companies just don%26#39;t expect 4* apartments. The position is good not far from the beach and plenty of nightlife and restaurants around.

|||

Thanks for that, I booked it because it looked nice on the pictures, plus seemed to be well situated. I don%26#39;t have such a problem with basic, it was the many reviews/comments about how dirty and in disrepair they were and being unable to do much about it. I would gladly pay more for somewhere, so long as it was clean and good facilities. I looked at my paperwork and have paid £360 for the week for apartment for 4. I just want to have a good holiday with the kids.

Almyra hotel all inclusive option?

Hiya!

Can anyone please tell me if they have booked the all inclusive thomsons holiday to the almyra in paphos?

We have just booked and are assured it is all inclusive, but now can not find anything on the internet to confirm this?

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We travel in 6 days so any info would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks

Lou

|||

Hi Lou - I can%26#39;t find it anywhere on Thomsons site. Have Thomson offered you this instead of Mexico?

If so, I%26#39;d suggest emailing the hotel chain on anassa@thanoshotels.com just to confirm your all inclusive booking with them. Take along any booking confirmation that Thomson have given you as well. Let us know how you get on.

|||

thanks for your prompt reply.

Yes we were supposed to be going to mexico on thursday! sadly that was cancelled and we%26#39;ve found the almyra...i am hoping that thomsons haven%26#39;t got the booking wrong because the hotel looks amazing!!! actually it looks too good to be true....so i am hoping its right!....has anyone been?

i%26#39;ve emailed them and asked about the all inclusive option...i%26#39;ll let you know!

thanks again lou x

|||

Good luck Lou - you could also try sending a PM to Paphos Photographer (another DE on this forum) as I%26#39;m sure she%26#39;s stayed there recently and also based in Paphos.

|||

Hi Lou

sent you a pm

Hi everyone,

In Athens at the moment. Acropolis amazing as usual but closed due to renovations. Weather great.

When I%26#39;m back on Monday, I%26#39;ll speak to the hotel manager for Lou.

Lou, can you send me an PM with your full name and I%26#39;ll ask the manager about you re: the AI query

Leah

|||

Hi Lou

Juast called the hotel and they only do Half Board and Full board, they also said they have no intention in the future to go A.I

Kev

|||

Lol Leah - they are renovating the Acropolis!

|||

If you fancy a meal out, opposite the hotel is a restaurant called the adelaida, which does an excellent meal very large portions, free wine with 2 meals, the owner laura is very popular and a lovely lady, they are always busy, have a great time i will be going 7 weeks on thursday.

|||

Hi everyone.

Firstly thanks for being so helpful in providing info and contacting the hotel, it is much appreciated. I do not know what we do without people as helpful as you on Trip Advisor. You have all been brilliant!

We have now cancelled our holiday as it turns out, after making numerous phone called to thomsons, that we were not booked into the almyra at all. Just imagine our disappointment!?!? Thomsons will, needless to say, be getting a very strong letter of complaint for this error! We have already had the disappointment of having our trip to mexico cancelled, now this!!?!?

Anyway we%26#39;ve managed to find a weeks last minute break to the Altantica Aeneas in Nissi Beach. I am just hoping that thomsons haven%26#39;t made another mistake in booking this!?! surely we can%26#39;t be that unlucky!!?

Once again, thank you so much! Lou xx

do you want to make a bet haha, it comes in 3%26#39;s

Google Eden Square Cyprus and it will show you all the restaurants there.

|||

Hi Mate, its really nice, there are a few restaurants, including a japenese one over a little bridge with a little moat thing underneath. there is usually a singer on at night and a nice seating area, also to the right of the bar they make lovely pancakes to order. As you walu up to it there is a stone wall with changing lights and water running through them, its only 2 mins from vangelis and on the same side.

Ledra Beach,Paphos

Hi All

Can anybody tell me please whether there are hairdriers and toiletries in the rooms at this hotel.I%26#39;m trying not to take anything unnecessary.Thanks for any help.T.

|||

This is a 4* hotel. There will be a hairdryer and toiletries in the bathroom in the room.

|||

Thanks very much for your reply ,this forum and it%26#39;s members are so helpful,T.

|||

Just arrived back from Ledra beach early this morning.

Yes there are hairdryers (its quite powerful too) in the bathroom and pump shower gel/shampoo but no conditioner. Also pump soap by the sink.

There is a shower cap provided.

|||

Also you can hire beach towels for the pool at €10 deposit so you don%26#39;t need extra towels.

They are strict at Paphos airport on luggage weight and if you go over its €11 per kilo.

Also men need to wear jeans/trousers in the restaurant for the evening meal (ladies seem to have more leeway with 3/4 length etc)

Have a great time

|||

Thanks Ria,hope you had a good time,will you be writing a review? several people have said that it doesn%26#39;t deserve a four star rating ,would you agree,we%26#39;re going in August because we have to go during the school holidays,I imagine it will be busy then,if I could choose when to go I%26#39;d rather go before the season really starts.T.

|||

I will be doing a review - when I have sorted out some photos.

I too have to go in school hols (being a teacher) - my sister arranged her wedding there during the Easter hols because of that.

Considering it was school holidays there weren%26#39;t too many kids (and most were taken care of by the animation team).

The hotel wasn%26#39;t over crowded and only once in all the meals did we struggle to get a table for 8 in the restaurant - and that was sorted really quickly as the waiting staff immediately put tables together and before we had got a glass of wine it was done.

Unfortunately the stories of the towels on the sun beds are sadly true and even in this season we had to go out early to get beds together.

Paphos itself wasn%26#39;t that busy until you got to the harbour area - it was really busy there.

If you do decide to eat out of the hotel (not that you need to as the food is really good - I%26#39;d look around everywhere before deciding what to have - even by the dessert plates...) there is a great restaurant in the old town

http://www.kiniras.com/about_us.htm

that my sister had her reception at and we liked it so much we booked in for later in the week - warning the main dishes are lovely but massive!

I personally would find it too hot in the summer - I even got a sun allergy this week I think also due to the detergent used in the bedding! High factor cream and antihistamine cream/tablets are a must!!

Oh if you usually get bitten - take anti-mozzie stuff as we got bitten by some nasties...

It was a fab week and I would go back - but in low/mid season like now. Have a wonderful time yourself.

|||

Thanks again,Ria,I had read about the sunbed situation but,hopefully,as our friend is a very early riser,6 o%26#39;clock at the latest,we usually give her all our towels and she puts them out for us.

It was good to hear that the food is okay.

I always take antihistamines and mossie spray and plug ins ,it sounds as though we will need them.,also loads of high factor suncream and luggage scales for our cases on return.

If you think of anything else we may need ,I%26#39;ll be very happy to take your advice,thanks again,T.

|||

The review is now up. I did get a bit carried away and to say its a bit long is an understatement.

tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g190384-d315324…

I hope it helps. I really enjoyed my holiday at the Ledra Beach in Paphos (I usually go more independant to France, Italy or Belgium etc organising it all myself) and it has %26#39;inspired%26#39; me to try other new places and perhaps put my trust in the travel agents!

|||

Thanks Ria for your detailed review,it has answered lots of my questions,so glad it all went well for your sister.I%26#39;m really looking forward to going,just wish we were going sooner.T.

|||

Hi wondered if you have been to this hotel yet? We are thinking of booking but have been put off by a review saying the gym was poor. Can you let us know if you saw or used the gym please. I hope you had a fantastic time. Thanks

need chocolate fountain to hire for my wedding in june

would any one know of a company I could hire a chocolate fountain for my wedding in june at the capo bay hotel. the hotel said they can not provide this ,so just wondered if anyone out there provides this service??/

|||

Hi,

I know that someone does a chocolate fountain but my memory isn%26#39;t being kind to me. I suggest you going to www.angloinfo.com.cy and type in Chocolate fountain in the search field. There is a forum which is all about weddings, wedding planners and wedding services. Check that out.

If that fails, i suggest you try to speak to wedding planners. They should be able to help you out.

Leah :)

|||

Found it!!

Try this

Hi,

Hotel is in a quiet location, with a nice little bay near the Cavo Maris hotel, its about 20mins walk to protaras or a two minute taxi or bus ride. I have been to protaras lots and think i have dropped off at this hotel. its out of protaras towards Ayia Napa, it seems to get good reviews.
