Hylatio Tourist Village and Pissouri Resort in General

I%26#39;m thinking of booking this accomodation for the 1st 2 weeks in September and wondered if anyone could advise if it is suitable for a couple with a 16 month old daughter - i.e is it far from the beach, local amenities, taverna%26#39;s etc? as we do not wish to hire a car.

Secondly can anyone advise as to the suitability of the beach for a baby? is it sandy and is the water safe.

I%26#39;d be very grateful of any replies and additional information. Thanks xx

The area is suitable for those wishing for a quite, relaxing holiday. There are some shops and several restaurants and tavernas close by but no clubs, which I guess is not a problem for you.

For something more luxurious, if you are interested, you can try the bars or the restaurants at Columbia Beach Hotel and Resort.

I have only seen Hylatio from the outside and it looks good. It%26#39;s about 5-6 minutes walk from the beach which at some spots is sandy and at others is pebbly.

The water gets deep rather quickly but as to safety it depends on the wind. In September you probably won%26#39;t have the very high temperatures of June-July but in Pissouri on some days the sea is beatifully calm while on others it%26#39;s rather rough.

Clubs are definitely a no-no!!! but we just needed to be sure there are several taverna%26#39;s within walking distance to enable us to take the baby out in the pushchair in the evening for a meal.

I would seriously consider hiring a car. Taxis are very expensive. Not sure if you are flying to Larnaka or Paphos but 2 lots of taxis will probably be less than the car hire.

And you will miss out on seeing the old village, which amongst other things gives you more choice for taverna%26#39;s and Cyprus night in the village square.

Also whilst shopping for essentials in the little shops in Pissouri Bay is fine, with a we%26#39;an you may want the convenience of a visit to Orphanides supermarket, either in Paphos (25 minutes away) or Limassol (30 minutes away)

There are also some lovely kid friendly beaches like Currium (which you may see spelled as Kourion). This is 20 minutes from Pissorui.

It is mostly sandy, has a gentle shelf and smaller waves. Much more bucket and spade friendly

Be aware that there are no medical facilities to speak of in Pissouri - on our last trip my son had suspected appendicitis and that resulted in a visit to the Blue Cross hospital in Paphos. Fortunately, he didn%26#39;t have appendicitis but needed 2 days in hospital - we were grateful that we had a car.

Remember that they drive on the same side of the road as we do and all the signs are in English. The roads are very quiet and Pissouri is very well signposted from the motorway (glossy description of their 2 lane highway)

Pissouri is beautiful and one of Cyprus%26#39; best kept secrets. It is very quiet though. A handful of tavernas and restaurants in the Bay with one pub that I am aware of.

Pissouri Old Village is stunning and has more tavernas, restaurants, a couple of bars, banks and minimarkets.

Hylatio is a fantastic standard of self catering accommodation, well appointed with pretty gardens and a lovely pool. You can only book this through Olympic Holidays.

From Hylatio it is 5 - 10 minutes walk to the beach.

You should be aware that there is no bus service in or out of Pissouri - at all. Columbia used to run a complimentary shuttle service to Paphos and Limassol but have recently stopped it.

If you book a package you will have transfers included from/to the airport but you really will need to hire a car. Beautiful as Pissouri is, there is not a lot to do and you could get easily bored.

We stayed at hylatio tourist village last september for two weeks and have to agree with the other replies. Pissouri beach is beautiful but not sandy it is pebbly although the water very clear, the nearest sandy beach that we found was at kourian which was lovely and reasonably quiet with a very good clean restaurant which is highly recommended although not open evenings, to get there you would have to drive, but as said the driving is so easy and roads so quiet you would not regret it especially if you are there for 2 weeks. also if you do have a car the village up the hill which is not walking distance is also worth a visit it has some lovely restaurants and feels like the real cyprus.

You will have a lovely relaxing time it is so laid back there but do consider the car oh also another good beach but a bit further away is coral beach which has great facilities for children and is a bit busier this is just outside paphos probably 1/2 drive away.

hope this helps.
