where to stay in May for the 1st time in Cyprus

Hi,

Advice needed!We%26#39;re looking to book a week towards the end of May and have been advised that Cyprus is good weather then. We%26#39;ve never been before so suggestions would be good. We%26#39;re 44, like boats and marinas and hate %26quot;Blackpool%26quot; style resorts. We like walking around, a bit of sunbathing by a pool and eating out near a harbour at night. 4* and as kid free as possible!! Suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

You will enjoy Paphos, we are of there for our third time towards the end of May. If you are looking for a kid free hotel. Try the Pioneer Beach Hotel. It is right on the beach %26amp; not to close to the main stream hustle %26amp; bustle. But close enough if you know what I mean.

Try a look at there website www.pioneer-cbh.com

Polis Latchi is a beautiful area to stay....driving is easy in Cyprus, hire a car and see the rest of the island...Enjoy yr holiday

Hi kidfreenow

A person after my own heart (kid free) We have been to Cyprus for many years now and we always stay at the Alexander the Great Beach hotel, in our opinion the best hotel we have ever stayed in! great location, great food, very clean, staff are lovely and are very helpful, added bonus not many kids at all and you have your own private beach and not to mention it is a 5* too (cant get any better than this)

You are only 5-10 mins walk from the fantastic harbour, which has some lovely restaurants, I would definatley recommend a day boat trip really good fun and very relaxing.

Would definatley also recommed hiring a car (do this through hotel very easy and good rates) we went all over the crete and saw some fantastic sights along the way, and even better they drive on the same side as us so very easy to get around.

You will have the best time here its just pure heaven!

Have fun and enjoy

If you need info on good trips or restaurants let me know and I would be happy to help.

Hi Kidfreenow!!

I think I would agree with Riddon poster who mentions Polis and Latchi. Paphos can at times resemble Blackpool in the shops along the front, but then a lot of mediterranean resorts have gone like this to accommodate the British tourist. Polis and Latchi are quiter and a bit more unspoilt. You will need a car as it is quite remote and there will be less kids there too. A word or warning that if you are going the end of May and want kids free, the kids will be on whi hols from 22 May to 31 May!!! so you may wish to avoid this week and especially as the prices are sky high!!!

Hope this helps

Fiona (who can only dream of being kids free!!!)

Good advise from MinnieFiona. As she says kids will be on holiday and it the start of the season. Paphos is a resort, 99% of it%26#39;s visitors are British and it does have areas that resemble British tourist resorts, so it gears up accordingly. The better hotels 5* are located in Limassol and genrally cater for a mix of nationalities, and are situated at the far end of the tourist area.

If you are looking for peace and quiet Polis/Latsi would be a better option but the hotels are genrally in the mid range category, but the area is less touristy, food is genrally good quality, fresh and not so many kids around.

Hi Kidfreenow

I am 44 and live here in Paphos. I hate %26#39;Blackpool%26#39; and would never visit there when I lived in the UK.

Paphos is nothing like Blackpool. No amusements, no tacky shops, no loud music blaring etc. There are tourist shops selling most of the same things but not tacky. Some nice restaurants, bars etc not just at the harbour but the road leading to it. Nice to sit there day or night watching people go by. We stayed at the Athena Royal when we holidayed in Paphos. Adult only hotel which is quite a new build located on the beach. Not as far out as the Pioneer.

The only downside is the ticket touts down by the harbour stopping you with scratchcards. Just be firm with them and carry on walking. Took me a couple of visits before I fell in love with Cyprus but give it a go and make up your own mind. Weather will be lovely anyway. Hope you enjoy your holiday wherever you go!

Many thanks everyone. You%26#39;ve given us plenty food for thought. Our 3 girls are grown up now (they think) so we%26#39;re out of touch with school hol dates.

We%26#39;re off to Puerto Pollensa on 6th July so will have to overlap very slightly with the May school holidays or we won%26#39;t get to fit it in.

Thanks again. Great %26quot;real%26quot; advice.
