Hotel Athena Beach/Paphos

Hi

coming to Cypus for the first time in July. Think I%26#39;ve picked a nice hotel but after reading some articles, now a bit concerned about Paphos.

We are a couple in our thirties with a 7yr old girl.

We don%26#39;t like it too busy and we like to walk.

Please tell me we%26#39;ll be ok!

thanks

Hello,

This hotel is really nice. It is never very very busy and it has a nice comfortable crowd.

From this hotel, you can walk for a good 30-40 minutes to get to the harbour. There are some nice beaches for you to have a nice stroll along.

Do not worry. This is good hotel. A good location. :)

I agree but your within easy reach of the Atlantida Beach which is one of the best beaches in paphos, your 7 yr old will love it. Your also 5 - 10 mins away from the Triangle which have bars %26amp; restaurants notable good ones also walking distance from the water park from th hotel

Hi, thanks both.

can I ask you a couple more questions:

in your opinion are there definite %26#39;must dos%26#39;?

how about areas to avoid?

any other real (as opposed to Holiday Company) info would be brilliant

thanks again

You must definitely visit all the historical sites of Paphos. Paphos was once the capital city of Cyprus and according to historical papers, Mark Anthony once gave Cyprus as a present to Queen Cleopatra... Cool, eh?

You should also definitely visit the Aphrodite Waterpark. It is very close to your hotel and you can easily walk there.

Don%26#39;t bother going to Adonis Baths or Aphrodite Baths. They suck. Nothing like the Victoria Falls or the Niagara Falls. They%26#39;re absolutely breathtaking. You get the drift....

Avoid going to restaurants at the harbour. You will experience touts. It is illegal to tout now. Law was passed last year. If they bother you, say %26#39;Don%26#39;t tout me%26#39;. They%26#39;ll get the message and if they see you repeatedly, they%26#39;ll stop touting you. The touts know me quite well! :p

If you want to eat good fish, go to Atlantida restaurants. During weekends, it is full of Cypriots.

The cafes at the harbour are good though. No harm in having a sandwich or burger there. The halloumi/lountaza pitta sandwich at Hobo cafe is really good! :D Be prepared for hiked prices.

If you go to Penguino cafe found on the same road towards the Harbour from your hotel, prices are reasonable and food is really good. The ice cream is absolutely heaven!

I have stayed at the Athena Beach 4 times in the last 3 years with my husband and parents and could not fault it. My sister was there last year with her 11 yr old daughter - there is always a good mix of young and old. The staff are lovely very friendly in all areas of the hotel ..restaurant/reception/bar/cleaning staff.

Zoe the Thomson rep is the best rep I have ever met she is so helpful and always smiling and is a great asset to the hotel.

You are a few mins walk to the triangle, the bus stop is outside the hotel to go to the harbour or up to the old town.

The hotel restaurant is excellent and I would also highly reccommend the Greek restaurant opposite the hotel

Have a great holiday

Hi,

I would say that it%26#39;s a 20min walk really. i%26#39;ve stayed in this hotel. lovely and very nice staff. paphos is lovely, more upmarket than other resorts. i really don%26#39;t agree with avoiding the harbour.....why? it has some lovely restaurants too and I do like nice food.

paphos has an abundance of restaurants. if you hire a car you open your options up alot as you can travel up the Troodos mountains and visit nearby coral bay which has a huge sandy beach. Alternatively take the beach to this. only do aphrodities rock if you hire a car, i do think it%26#39;s a beautiful site, it is just a rock in the sea and a lovely cave but it%26#39;s still interesting.

visit tomb of the kings and the mosaics.

You will be absolutely fine. we are 30 and the last time we were there my husbands sister and hubby and 7 year old went, she had a ball and loved the pool best i think. The cypriots love kids and were very nice to her especially in restaurants.

It%26#39;s not Ibiza. There is one main bar area called bar street with most of the bars and even that is not crazy mental, just normal. It feels safe eventhough nowhere is safe really.

Lots of families, couples and older people in Paphos, few drunken louts really. hate those places.

Touts,no where near as bad as some rotten holiday resorts, quite tame really and polite if you say no. in fact very few. Personally i don%26#39;t agree with alot of what the previous commentator wrote regarding seafront restaurants, aphrodites rock and touts. i%26#39;m sure others will agree.
