Sky tv in cyprus or altenatives - Help please

Hi

For all of you people living out there. Whats the cheapest way to get SKY TV? Do you need a massive dish? is it legal? What do do you all use and how much is it for setup and subscription etc.

Thanks for your help

Bearing in mind most of the bars in Cyprus can pick up the various UK based Sky Sports channels I%26#39;m guessing it%26#39;s not too difficult to obtain most Sky TV channels.

In theory it should only be a case of positioning an appropriate satelite dish at the correct satelite. - Not sure what you%26#39;d need to do in terms of subscription. I can%26#39;t see why you couldn%26#39;t have a standard subscription abroad though.

All this is just guess work. - If you want more info I%26#39;d check out the forums on www.digitalspy.co.uk. There%26#39;s quite a few satelite forums on there with people who really know their stuff.

Hi,

You do not necessarily have to have Sky if you would like something else cheaper.

There is an alternative which is called MiVision. You can watch live football matches from the UK and other countries too. I.e. Formula 1, tennish, Commonwealth and Olympic games. You can also watch the latest films too.

Aren%26#39;t Cypriot series just awful?!

Had to laugh whilst I was out there last week. The TV is just awful. Made me want to stay out there and look for media jobs :) - It reminded me of UK TV about 20 years back.

Think it%26#39;s fair to say most cameramen in Cyprus are certainly male. I love all the music shows. Some poor guy is trying to sing his heart out but the camera man in more interested in his good looking backing singers. - You%26#39;ve got to watch it just fot the commedy value, if nothing else. :)

I think you are spot on Paul. Saying that, jobs in the media are very few and far between, in fact it is a closed shop. TV personalties are treated as royalty in Cyprus no matter wether they are talented or not, and in general expect to be treated as such.

Ive been told that to receive all of the UK sky channels I will need a dish that is 2.4 metres. Been quoted 2800 Euros for this. Dont want to spend that much. Apparantly you can take a sky box and card from Uk and it will work.

Still looking into alternatives.
