Whats it like??

What is Protaras like? Have booked a two week holiday in August, but have been put off Protaras by various people and guide books saying it like Blackpool with sun!! Are there any nice greek restaurants or is it just british pubs serving british food?

Ive been going for the last 10 years, and yes its got more commercialised over the years, its not blackpool in the sun, the beaches are superb. There are lots of nice restaurants, i keep away from fools and horses bar and places like that, their is lots of tribute bands etc, basically there is something for everyone, where our you staying

Protaras is a purpose built resort, pedestrianised and very clean with lovely beaches and clear blue sea. There is plenty to do for all ages. It is commercialised but that is what the tourists have demanded. Plenty of tavernas serving nice Cypriot food. Hire a car and get out and about into the countryside to visit the typical Cypriot villages. There is a very good trip which gives you an insight into the Cypriot way of life - The Red Bus. Takes you from Pernera to Protaras to Ayia Napa %26amp; Ayia Thekla and then round the villages and up to the green line so you get a good view into the northern part of Cyprus which is of course still Turkish occupied. Plenty of lovely boat trips up to Famagusta and then down to Cape Greko for superb swimming %26amp; snorkelling. It will be extremely hot in August and very humid but you will at least be guaranteed 14 days of continuous blue skies and hot sun!
