Is it warmer in Protaras than it is in Paphos ?

Hi...We are thinking about going to Cyprus on the 5th May and we were wandering what part of the island is warmer ? Im from Scotland so heat is a big factor in our choice for obvious reasons....

What sort of temp. can we expect at this time ??

Also i%26#39;ve heard its very expensive now ,can anyone confirm this ?

Thanks

The temps are more or less the same, with maybe a degree or two difference (Protaras usually the warmer place).

Paphos has more humidity in hot weather but it%26#39;s too early yet to worry about it.

For the beginning of May expect daytime temps of 24ºC-27ºC and around 13ºC lower in the evenings, though the weather is still quite changeable so nothing is certain.

As to being expensive, I guess it depends on what you believe is expensive or not. There are plenty of posts on the subject and you may get some idea on the price of things there.

If I may advice, shop around if you can, keep your eyes and ears open, and there good prices to be found.

I don%26#39;t know the stats but I would guess there%26#39;s not much in it.I%26#39;m sure I%26#39;ve read somewhere the east side is warmer though.Having said that, when we first started going to Cyprus on holiday we used to go to Pernera/Protaras for maybe the first 5 or 6 years. The first time we went to Paphos I found it felt much warmer but I think this is down to the humidity.Very little breeze during the day and very hot and sticky at night.Protaras gets very breezy in the afternoon and usually well into the evening(we have always been in July so can%26#39;t say for any other month).We%26#39;ve sat in restaurants at night in Pernera and the other half has felt cold but in Paphos/Coral Bay you would think she was melting.

As for prices,there%26#39;s been plenty of discussion on the forum recently.Stock up from the main supermarkets for your essentials(beer, wine etc!!!!) and look for restaurants offering set menus and the spending money should go a bit further.

Your question at first glance may seem a little ridiculous, as it depends on the weather in each particular area.

However, the eastern coast tends to be 3 - 4 C warmer than Paphos in the West.

You could expect temperatures averaging high 20%26#39;s during early May in Paphos, lovely temperature with little chance of rain.

As to the cost of Cyprus. Cyprus is now in the Eurozone so like most of mainland Europe will be more expensive than say 12-months ago due to the fluctuations in the exchange rate. However, if you buy local products and steer clear of obviouls tourist haunts, prices caqn be quote reasonable.

Good Luck

If it is absolute guaranteed 7 or 14 days continuous blue skies, sun and heat then the beginning of May is still a bit unpredicable. It will be warm/hot and very pleasant but there can still be sporadic rain and cloud. I%26#39;ve done 3 years at the beginning of May due to work commitments and each time I%26#39;ve experienced rain and last year finished me when we had two days of continuous rain and high winds - had to resort to wearing jeans and I%26#39;m not going to chance it again this year - going end of May/early June when you know the weather really is settled in for the summer. For some reason which has been explained to me but I can%26#39;t for the life remember what, Protaras/Pernera gets windy round about 3.00pm each day hence its name the land of the windmills.

It has been reported prices have increased in Cyprus and there are a couple of threads on this forum which you might like to pick up on but you can make a holiday as cheap or expensive as you like.
