Ayia Napa or Paphos ? where should my daughters stay ?

Every year my 20 year old daughters work hard on student jobs to save money for one summer week abroad.

This year it is Cyprus in the beginning of September. Since they are 20 they cannot yet rent a car so they are pretty much depending on buses or taxis for tours. Of course they enjoy beaches, pubs, shopping BUT they are foodies and are curious about other people and cultures. Wherever they travel they enjoy visiting monuments, museums, old towns, aquariums, you name it !

Their travel agent recommended Ayia Napa but they are worried that they would be stuck in a place where there is not much to do apart from tanning and partying (and vice and versa) The travel agent pretends that Paphos is neither for their group of age, nor for their budget. They will be flying from Switzerland and their budget is approx 1%26#39;000 USD for the flight and hotel stay.

I found so many offers on the web, I cannot decide which area and which hotel would suit their needs best, would anyone please recommend an area and possibly a hotel to help them choose ?

If they want nice beaches and a bit of everything then Ayia Napa would be my choice

I love Ayia Napa and have been many times, but to be honest its more about the beach, the restaurants and the bars/clubs.

Many thanks to both of you for your comments !

Whilst I would normally recommend the eastern side of the island for the wonderful beaches in this case I think Paphos and the surrounding area would be ideal for your daughters, lots of historical interests. Possibly the travel agent is assuming because of their age all they want to do is party!

Agree with Kath. Paphos has a little more than just nightlife, beach and partying. They could try Limassol if they want a bit more than just a resort ?
